A little look back at where The Barn Shed began.

Before the website, the collections and everything The Barn Shed has grown into, there was this little space in our garage.

Furniture being painted, flowers everywhere, sourced items scattered around and usually far too many ideas squeezed into one dim lit cold room.

It wasn’t especially polished, but this is really where it all started with a love of creating beautiful things for the home, giving old pieces a new life and building something slowly, one piece at a time.

Looking back now, so much has changed but so much of what The Barn Shed is today began right here.

We have so many exciting plans and launches in the works for Autumn and Winter, thank you for being with us for the journey.

Not my usual post at all but it’s the reality of running a small business. No one tells you that when you start a small business, you don’t just become the maker. You also become the photographer, videographer, editor, social media manager and apparently someone who has to work out how on earth to balance a camera on a parasol.

This was meant to be a lovely little video of me making a wreath, just my hands working on a new design on a sunny afternoon. Instead, the camera fell over more times than I can count, somehow I filmed half of it in slow motion, I couldn’t see the screen because of the sunshine, and I ended up running around moving towels after an impromptu water fight with the kids.

And that’s what The Barn Shed is all about. Not pretending life is always calm and picture perfect, because it definitely isn’t.

But I do believe in creating little moments that make you slow down, even if it’s only for ten minutes and creating a home that feels like somewhere you can properly exhale.

Not my usual content at all but it’s the real life between the making, family life, running a business and the calm.
