Our little shop will be closed this week as we sneak off for a short break while some exciting refurbishments happen behind the scenes!

It’s the Staveley Sheep Weekend and Village Show this weekend! We will be open on Saturday 11 - 4:30, ready to talk wool and all things sheep 🐑 (our favourite subject)! Come and see what we do, squish our yarns, or even sit and knit with us outside the shop!

It’s the Lakes Makers Fair tomorrow in the Staveley Mill Yard! Wow! We’ve been blown away by the response to our Studio Assistant vacancy so far!

Have you ever wanted to work with wool? Here at our wool studio we’re looking for a new part time member of staff to assist in all areas of yarn production - including dyeing - and also to work in our lovely little yarn shop.

See the full details below:

Based at Assa Marra Wool Studio, you’ll be working across both Assa Marra Wool Studio and Susan Crawford as part of our small family team. We’re looking for a friendly, practical and reliable person to help with the day-to-day running of our wool studio, shop and events.

The Role Includes:
• Preparing and winding yarn
• Banding and labelling products
• Assisting in the dye studio
• Packing customer orders
• Serving customers in the shop
• Helping at workshops, classes fibre crafts
and events

We’re looking for someone who:
Is friendly, reliable and organised
Enjoys practical hands-on work
Is happy in a role that can be physically demanding at times
Has an interest in knitting, crochet or fibre crafts
Enjoys working as part of a small team
Retail experience would be an advantage

Base at Assa Marra Wool Studio, Staveley Mill Yard, Kendal, Cumbria. Starting August/September (training will be provided) Hours to be agreed.

If you’re visiting Cumbria Wool Gathering this weekend or simply in the area tomorrow, we’d love to welcome you to the shop!

We’ll be open with slightly different hours to usual, from 10:30am–3:30pm, with lots of beautiful yarns, knitting inspiration and samples to browse.

We’ve been having a lot of fun in the studio this week, creating new variegated colourways and experimenting with our companion mohair shades.

There’s something magical about holding a strand of mohair alongside your yarn when knitting, colours shift, blend and pop in completely different ways. Some pairings are subtle and tonal while others are wonderfully vibrant and unexpected.

We’re dreaming up some gorgeous combinations for Landmark beanie pattern in bright mint Wold Chunky and special edition variegated green Mist and also Garnett sweater in Verdigris Fenella and a contrasting pink mohair Mist. Which one catches your eye?
