In honour of World Ocean Day, here’s a collection I made inspired by living beside the sea 🌊

The ‘Galloway Shores’ collection started with ‘Scottish Oysters’ and soon developed into this set of 4 patterns. Each design is inspired by different elements of nature found close to home beside the coast of SW Scotland.

The full ‘Galloway Shores’ collection is available on www.kbandcodesigns.com and Spoonflower

One thing I often hear at markets is some variation of “Your notebooks are beautiful, but I wouldn’t want to write in it because it’s too nice.”

I get it. I hate the idea of “ruining” a beautiful notebook too. But the thing I dislike more is waste, and isn’t it a bit of a waste having beautiful things and not using them?

I’m not sure where the idea of ‘waiting to enjoy the things that you have’ came from. I’ve definitely been guilty of it in the past, but recently I’ve been coming to the conclusion that your own life is a good enough reason to enjoy the beautiful things.
Couldn’t we all do with our lives being a little brighter? Wouldn’t the big shop at the supermarket be a little better if you wrote down your shopping list in a notebook with a fun cover? Wouldn’t the meeting at work be slightly more bearable if you took notes in a journal that made you smile every time you saw it?

So take this as your permission to use the beautiful things. Hang the art, light the candle, wear the jewellery, write in the notebook. And if that nice notebook happens to be a KB & Co Designs one, then thank you very much for your support!

In honour of World Bee Day 🐝 here’s a pattern I created back in January as part of my ‘Springtime Scribbles’ collection. I could spend hours in the garden watching the bees drift between the flowers on a sunny day.

Which colourway is your favourite?

This pattern, along with the rest of the ‘Springtime Scribbles’ collection, is available for licensing, and on www.kbandcodesigns.com & Spoonflower.

When I tell people I’m a surface pattern designer, it’s usually followed up with the question “And what exactly is that?”
The answer generally involves some sort of quick explanation of art licensing and examples of things I could put my patterns & art on. More often than not, I mention fabric, wallpaper, and stationery but pattern design can be used in so many different industries!
One I always forget to mention is jigsaw puzzles 🧩
I really enjoy doing jigsaws, and my favourite puzzles are the ones I would happily hang on the wall because the artwork is so beautiful! (see the last pic for some of my faves 😉).
I would LOVE to see my own artwork on a jigsaw one day and hope that it would make someone else think ‘I could hang this on the wall’ too.

Are you a fan of jigsaws and, if so, where do you stand on puzzles with ‘helpful letters’ on the back? My mum says it’s cheating but I think you might as well use them if they’re there.

Have you ever noticed that the world is full of patterns?
Anytime I leave the house or travel somewhere new, I see patterns and pattern inspiration everywhere! If you’ve ever been on holiday with me then you’ll know I come home with lots of photos of floors, walls, ceilings, and random elements of nature 📸😆
These are just some of the photos I’ve taken because I thought I could make a pattern out of it.

Have you spotted any patterns today whilst you’ve been out enjoying the May Bank Holiday?

April showers bring May flowers 🌷

This mini-collection of three patterns started in the garden with my favourite flowers. I love how tulips come in so many different shapes & colours, showing their beauty in a single stem, when combined in a paper-wrapped bouquet, or in the intricate details seen when you take the time to look a bit closer.

These three ‘Spring Tulips’ patterns are available for licensing, and on www.kbandcodesigns.com & Spoonflower.

Meet Gerald.
If you've seen The Other Bennet Sister, then you'll know all about him. He cannot vomit, but he can break your heart.

After watching the whole series twice 🙈 this conversation between Mary and Mr Hurst is definitely one of my favourite scenes! I couldn't get the idea of this illustration out of my head, so here's the result. A couple of random horse pictures that no one asked for! 😆

If you have no idea what I'm going on about, then I highly recommend heading over to BBC iPlayer and giving The Other Bennet Sister a watch. You won't regret it!
