What a photoshoot really looks like behind the scenes…
Edith helping with the photographs, me trying to look as though I know exactly what I’m doing—and both of us inevitably getting distracted somewhere along the way.
She has grown up alongside this business and has helped with everything from photoshoots and packing orders to giving me her very honest opinion on new designs. Sometimes rather more honestly than requested 😂
Building Tracey Cooper has never just been about creating homeware. It’s also been about building something of my own, here at Blackhill Farm, while raising Edith and navigating all the other messy, lovely and complicated parts of family life.
The finished photographs may look polished. Behind them, it’s usually just the two of us making it up as we go along ❤️

I sometimes wonder what would have happened if I’d started this twenty years ago.
But then I think I probably wouldn’t have created this brand.
Tracey Cooper has come from everything that came before it — being an artist, living in the countryside, raising a family, changing careers, getting things wrong, starting again and finally deciding that the creative part of me deserved to take up a bit more space.
So no, I’m not the twenty-something founder who had it all mapped out.
I’m 55, building a British homeware brand from the countryside, drawing things I love and seeing where it takes me.
And I’m rather excited about that.
If there’s something you’ve been quietly thinking about doing for years, perhaps this is your sign not to write yourself off just yet. ❤️

Most kitchen textiles are made to be folded up and hidden in a drawer.
Mine are made differently.
I design every piece to work hard—proper heat protection, washable cotton and made for real, busy kitchens—but also to bring colour, character and a little joy to the room.
Because the things you use every day shouldn’t have to be boring.
Useful enough to work. Beautiful enough to leave out. That’s the difference. 💛

A little colour, a Victoria sponge and absolutely no beige allowed. 🍓🐝
I’ve always believed the practical things we use every day can also make us smile. My hand-illustrated Bee Apron is made in Britain for colourful kitchens, joyful cooks and anyone who isn’t afraid to make a bit of a mess along the way.

Country kitchens were never meant to be beige — and neither were the people cooking in them.
This is the kind of everyday moment my brand is built around: cooking, creating and bringing a little more colour and character into the home.
I designed the Zebra apron to be practical enough for real life, but joyful enough to make even an ordinary supper feel a little more special. Hand-illustrated by me and beautifully made here in Britain.
Because the things we use every day should make us smile. 🦓🍊
