Highland Colours

Highland Colours Natural plant dyed hand-spun yarn from the British Isles. Art-yarn, plant dyed locks and fibre, and vintage weaving mill bobbins.

Check out my website https://www.highlandcolours.com/ Highland Colours is a small home business. Everything is made by hand from mainly local materials. I dye my local wool with local plants that grow around me and some I buy in from elsewhere. Handspun yarn is spun by me on my spinning wheel. I particularly enjoy creating art-yarn and lockspun yarns because it's one-off and unlike anything that c

an be produced commercially. I also produce fibres and locks for hand spinners, felters and doll makers, in my same natural plant colours. Everything is packaged and mailed in biodegradable packaging.

My most recent rigid heddle scarf, woven using my handspun, from a beautiful shetland fleece. I spun this wool lock by lock without carding, which is my favourite way to spin yarn.

Handspun, handwoven scarf. Using my trusted Brother drum carder again, i blended up merino, sari silk, camel and silk. Merino dyed with a variety of plant dyes. I love simple rigid heddle plain weave and i love my small samplet Ashford loom. So easily stowed when not in use. Ive made a lot of these scarves over the years. The key is keeping ALL the yarn super soft.

The merino and shetland first dyed with buckthorn then indigo for my favourite teal orsea green blue you might call it. I knitted the 100 stitch cast on size, and was worried it might be tight, but its perfect. Getting ready for my second...
