That colour match 💙 This lovely customer Pobble circular fashion came to us saying that the shop was that hot that customers were not staying, but now we've not only helped her shop be more comfortable for people to browse, but made it look even more amazing and stand out 😍

The question here is how do you transport a 12.5m (41') wide awning down Devon's lanes to the edge of Dartmoor? 🤔 Well the answer is in bits! This lovely Balmoral awning was built on site and then lifted into position 💪🏼 You may think 12.5m is wide for an awning in one piece, but this system can achieve 15m in total 😱 It's no light weight either, it weighs 222kg! ⚖️ I think we can say the fitters earned their money on this job, well done team 🥳

What a special job this was! I bet you didn't know that shading can also help the local wildlife? 🤔 This smart looking motorised Louvolite Lightguard, fully blackout blind is controlled by a Somfy motor and Tahoma hub 🫶 It has been programmed to go down automatically at night to stop any internal light getting outside and stopping resident bats from roosting 🦇

BBSA has publicly backed the Climate Change Committee's new "A Well Adapted UK" report, which calls for a passive-measures-first approach to cooling buildings.

The report reinforces the position we have consistently held. New buildings should be designed to keep people cool from the outset, with low-cost passive measures, including shading, doing much of the work before active cooling is ever needed.

For architects, developers and policy-makers, the report is a useful reference point. It aligns closely with UK Building Regulations Part O, the London Plan, and existing public health guidance on overheating.

Something a little different today. You have seen our posts of shiny new awnings or motorised blinds which can be operated from your phone anywhere in the world but at heart we are traditional blind makers. At 7 am this morning I had the pleasure to work on two old Boxlot rollers. These rollers where sent to us by one of our trade customers in London who needed the rollers recovered in the traditional way. We are one of only a handful of UK companies left who still have the skills to do this. Many companies can open a box and screw a blind to the wall but not many can call themselves blind makers.
These covers are hand stitched to the roller using a sailmakers palm and needle, a skill passed on by the late great mentor Peter who founded Torbay blinds back in the late 60s.
These rollers are Deans blinds rollers (The company Peter that did his apprenticeship with as a young lad) with this set of covers dating back to 1932. The old covers are the second set of covers making the rollers well over 100 years old. We can tell this from the remnants of an envelope wedged in the old cover to make the fabric roll correctly. You have got to love a bit of history. It is an honour to carry on the tradition and work something as old as this which still has plenty of life lift in it.
We are proud to still have the skills to make handmade blind boxes and custom bent arms all in house using methods which has been used by blind makers for decades.
