Recently stayed at The George Hotel in Hathersage and couldn’t stop thinking about the bedrooms.

Bold, characterful and unapologetically playful, exactly the kind of hotel design that sticks with you.

So I’ve pulled together a bedroom concept inspired by the space, using:

• Deep navy as a cocooning base
• A whimsical underwater wallpaper for storytelling
• Soft blush and dusty pinks to warm and balance
• Velvet textures and warm wood for boutique-hotel luxury

Hotels are brilliant places to borrow confidence from, they remind us that bedrooms can be immersive, indulgent and full of personality, not just neutral and “safe”.

The transformation so far.

With the main living spaces now in place, this project continues to evolve. A bespoke bar, fireplace, and additional cabinetry in the lounge are still to come, along with final styling touches such as artwork, each adding further character and craftsmanship to the home.

Design doesn’t always arrive all at once. The most successful spaces are often shaped thoughtfully, in stages, with longevity firmly in mind.

More to come.

As the design developed, the focus shifted to clarity and restraint.
This stage was about refining the palette, materials, and finishes, editing back to what felt calm, cohesive, and considered. Each element was chosen not in isolation, but for how it works alongside the rest, creating a scheme that feels connected and timeless rather than trend-led.

Part of my role as a designer is knowing when to simplify, refine, and let the overall composition lead.

Design is a process of exploration and refinement.

At this stage, multiple ideas were developed, layouts were tested, palettes were layered, and bespoke elements were explored. A particular focus was placed on how under-stairs space could be used more intelligently, with several design options considered before refining the final direction.

Not every concept is intended to make it into the finished scheme, and that’s by design. This phase allows space for questioning, refining, and making confident decisions that serve both the home and the people living in it.

Good design isn’t about more, it’s about knowing what to keep.

Every project begins long before furniture arrives or walls are painted.

For this home, the starting point was Modern English Character, a balance of classic architecture, contemporary restraint, and lived-in elegance.

The concept phase focused on mood, proportion, and how the rooms connect, establishing a clear design language before any decisions were finalised.

This stage is about direction, not decoration, creating a framework that allows a home to evolve beautifully and intentionally.

Over the coming posts, I’ll be sharing more of the design journey, from early concepts and explored ideas to the finished spaces as they continue to evolve.

Before ➝ After: Subtle Woodland Charm at The Furrows

This short-term let needed a gentle refresh, with a brief to take inspiration from its woodland setting.

By leaning into soft greens, natural textures, and a calm, layered palette, the hallway now feels welcoming, grounded, and in keeping with its surroundings.

Pantone Colour of the Year 2026: Cloud Dancer

So… it wasn’t Transformative Teal as many experts predicted.

Pantone announced its 2026 Colour of the Year yesterday, revealing Cloud Dancer (11-4201 TCX), an airy, quiet white that feels like a deep breath for the senses.

Described as a “blank canvas,” Cloud Dancer embodies clarity, calm, and a simplification of our visual world. It opens space for creativity and fresh thinking, a gentle reset we can build upon.

In interiors, Cloud Dancer is beautifully versatile. It pairs effortlessly with soft neutrals, warm woods, black metal accents, and touches of natural greenery, creating spaces that feel grounded yet weightless.

I’ve shared a couple of visuals alongside this post, including a clean Cloud Dancer palette and a loft-inspired mood board, to show how this understated shade can come to life in modern homes.

The 2026 Pantone Colour of the Year hasn’t been announced yet, but industry forecasters are pointing toward a shade known as Transformative Teal, a beautifully balanced blend of blue and green.

✨ The Colour
A rich, layered fusion of deep ocean blues and lush forest greens, offering both serenity and depth.
🌱 The Meaning
Symbolising a renewed connection to nature, adaptability, and growing ecological awareness.
💫 The Vibe
Calming and refreshing, yet quietly strong, a colour that brings clarity and balance into modern spaces.
🎨 The Versatility
Predicted to influence branding, fashion, interiors, and digital design thanks to its adaptable, contemporary feel.

While forecasts point to Transformative Teal, the final Pantone Colour of the Year could still surprise us.

Once the official shade is revealed in a few days, I’ll be sharing ideas on how to use it beautifully in your home, from subtle accents to full-room palettes.

I’m absolutely captivated by this wallpaper, the playful details, the architectural whimsy, the depth of colour.

It inspired me to design a rich, moody lounge/bar palette that doesn’t shy away from drama, yet feels luxurious and cohesive.

Key notes:

▪️ Deep peacock blue anchoring the walls and bar backs
▪️ Claret red and burnt orange for accent upholstery and cushions
▪️ Antique gold details, brushed brass lighting and trim
▪️ Ebonised woods for depth and contrast
▪️ Green-veined marble, smoked glass, and tactile velvets for layered texture

Designed to feel intimate yet indulgent, this concept celebrates contrast, bold colour against soft light, playful pattern balanced by elegant materials. It’s a space made for connection, conversation, and a touch of theatre.

🌈 Colour lovers, this one’s for you.

Who says hallways have to play it safe?

Bold primaries and graphic shapes bring instant personality to a space that’s too often overlooked.

A confident use of colour can transform even the simplest room into something unforgettable.

Would you dare to go this bold? 🎨✨

✨ Monochrome doesn’t have to mean monotone.

This modern office concept explores the depth and sophistication of a monochromatic palette, layering shades of grey and black through textured finishes like concrete, wool, terrazzo, and brushed metal.

By balancing tone and texture, a single-colour scheme becomes quietly dynamic, calm enough for focus, yet bold enough to make a statement.

Would you work in a space like this?🖤

COASTAL INDUSTRIAL CALM

This concept explores the harmony between raw materials and refined simplicity.

Muted coastal tones, warm leather, and tactile textures soften the strength of concrete and metal, creating a space that feels both contemporary and enduring.

A study in balance, tone, and quiet character.
