Lucky me! Thank you Lindsay Denning — you know me FAR too well! 😂

Were you lucky enough to get to the art car boot fair?

And any other Margo Mc Daid-bonkers fans out there?

I may never get the opportunity to talk to many of you about my art, and you may not be that interested in how a painting came to be. But for those of you that are, let me properly introduce you to ‘A Cup of Joy’.

Upon a door being opened, I was mesmerised by the view from the gallery window. So much so that I barely noticed the wonderful being who stood before me. She noticed, and just let me stare and take it all in.

That wonderful being is Lucy — scroll along and you’ll see her.

We sat beside her lake. I don’t remember saying much, but I remember feeling completely overwhelmed by the beauty of the surroundings… and crying!

I didn’t scare her off with my odd behaviour though, and it was then that I realised something rather special about Lucy.

Lucy believes in people. She sees the good, and the potential in you, often when you can’t see it yourself. She has this wonderful ability to make you feel almost invincible, taking away that awful self-doubt and making you believe that you really can do the things you dream of doing.

As an artist, that is a pretty special person to have in your life.

She’s been a great friend ever since. We don’t see each other often, but when we do, it feels special. Calming. Positively reinforcing.

So, the painting…

It shows that seemingly never-ending view and the lake, seen from the entrance hallway. Beautiful chairs sit beside the huge window, drawing your eye straight out towards the view.

And on the table sit some tissues — eco-friendly, of course, and to hand.

I think, for me, the painting has become a little reminder of that moment. To pause. To breathe. To cry if you need to. To sit still for a while and simply take in what’s around you.

That day, whilst sitting beside the lake, completely overwhelmed by the view and, yes, crying, I was sipping a herbal tea.

It was called Joy.

And that is how ‘A Cup of Joy’ came to be.

Thank you Lucy Homer Jones for being you.

So just like any other artist out there, I have a pile of unfinished pieces! Some, I’ve barely started and some that have been hanging around for years - abandoned!

What happens to these? I white wash and start over again.

But before I do…….would you like to see any of these finished?

I’d love to know your thoughts. They’re numbered, so give me a number and I’ll finish it!

A little bit about me… 🤍

For those of you who are new here, hello! I’m Sara, an artist based in Kent, drawn to bold, simplified landscapes and architecture.

I love taking a familiar place and stripping it back to its simplest forms — clean lines, strong shapes and vibrant colour — capturing something of the atmosphere, emotion and memory that stays with us.

I’m fascinated by the character of places — the buildings, the landscape, the shapes and details that make somewhere feel familiar and unique. I’m not interested in photographic accuracy; it’s much more about the feeling a place leaves behind.

I graduated from Goldsmiths in 1998 and spent years experimenting, finding my way and exploring different creative paths. Then, in 2020, something finally clicked. My work settled into the bold, simplified style I create today — a style that feels honest, expressive and very much my own.

Since then, I’ve been lucky enough to exhibit my work in galleries, exhibitions and open studios, and I’m really excited about where the next chapter takes me.

I’m going to be sharing much more of my work here — the places that inspire me, what’s happening behind the scenes, new paintings, exhibitions and, of course, pieces that are looking for their forever homes.

If you’ve been following me for a while, thank you for being here. And if you’re new… welcome! 💛💛💛
