We took the train to Dartmouth on our recent jolly, so no room for fancy sketch stuff. Just a rollerball pen and a homemade sketch book. Getting a whole lot braver πŸ’ͺπŸ»πŸ˜„

An old bit of illustration work for a BBC Proms concert programme many moons ago. A light-hearted reference to the Russian composer Tchaikovsky and his very rich and demanding benefactress.

It popped into my head because yesterday I got to perform in Tchaikovsky's Fifth Symphony. I dusted off my violin and took part in a monumental day of music-making led by conductor Ian McCrae. We performed the most amazing concert on only a morning's rehearsal. A 60-piece symphony orchestra is a magnificent beast! It was difficult, fun and exhilarating. And there was the pub afterwards πŸ₯³

The concert was a fundraiser for the marvelous suffolk charity (Suffolk Music and Arts Alumni) that allows young people to access performing arts opportunities. We need this more than ever these days πŸ₯°

Well I'll be... 😲

Did a bit of sketching research on my morning walk for the dummy bk I'm working up. And I saw one of MY CHARACTERS in the park!!! 🀣 She embodied the little girl I've been dreaming up 🀩 she was even dressed like one of the sketches I'd made!

I did a memory sketch as soon as I got back, after doing a very quick pencil wiggle there and then. I'm not showing that 🀭

I hope she has a fantastic day x

What a privilege to hear such a fine string ensemble in the refurbished Ipswich Museums at the weekend. The acoustics were stunning! Even more amazing to be able to tour the museum ahead of the collections being rehoused. The most beautiful space 🌟 I hope the museum giraffe enjoyed it 😍

Poor Tatyana, she got a rough deal ..

Last night I was working the Cinema shop for the live Met relay of Tchaikovsky's Eugene Onegin. It was absolutely glorious...actually, I imagined I'd bed down with a book at the back (it's looooong, don't judge me) but I couldn't help being drawn in.Β Β

I read the novel in my 20s back when
a) I had a commute
b) I had disposable income
c) my brain could cope with complex literature 🀣  I remember thinking... a Russian novel in verse? Unlikely I'll enjoy it... I was so wrong,  it destroyed me 😭Tatanya is devastating...

As ever, the Electric Palace is such a stunning venue, so worth a trip. And... there were TWO intervals, so even though the run time was 4 hours, you don't have to hungry or thirsty (they sell mini prosecco bottles) πŸ˜‹ come on people, culture is essential, like protein 🀭

Wowww! What a fun bank holiday weekend πŸ₯° fantastic day at the for a children's writing event. It was sooo good πŸ₯° Train got cancelled in the way home but it meant an hour in the sun at Manningtree station reading Sarah Winman's beautiful novel Still Life. Indian meal treat πŸ‘ŒπŸ» then off to Pin Mill for a night on the boat. Bliss. Cue happy face 😁
