Have you ever wondered what goes into creating a handmade box cushion? 🪡🧵✂️

It’s so much more than stitching fabric together. Firstly I took a template of this huge window seat space to get it all accurate. Then there’s the careful measuring and cutting to piping, sewing and the final fit, every stage takes time, precision and attention to detail.

This box cushion measured 260cm long and 80cm deep. That’s a huge peice of foam and so much fabric to negotiate, especially when it’s bigger than my cutting table! The fabric, a stunning neutral colourway was chosen and to keep up with the safety regulations was fire retardant. Did you even know that was a requirement?

I’ve recently taken on a new fabric companies range to enhance the choices to you, my lovely customers. There’s a lot of time and investment that goes on behind the scenes sorting fabrics and dealing with companies. This company has been a pleasure to deal with. Everything about the way the business is run they have thought about deeply and it shows. From the fabrics, the presentation folders to the support I get. I’m really looking forward to being able to show you their fabrics, whether in your home or my studio.

The audio to this post is quite appropriate, I did turn sewing into a business! It started properly 14 years ago making gifts from fabrics. Bunting, aprons, cushions, many personalised, too name a few.
I still get asked to make personalised bunting from repeat customers and I love it. Finding gorgeous colour combinations and turning into a gift, I feel is something quite special.
The first 2 photos are gifts I’ve made for newborns recently. It’s sent me down a rabbit hole looking at just a few makes from over the years. Something a bit different, I hope you enjoy seeing them. I wonder how many of you who follow me followed from the start?

With 4 big windows, this lovely, large bright room took some thinking of the best way to dress. We decided on 2 pairs of curtains dressing back to let all the light flow in and also enhancing the height of the windows.

The hand stitched curtains were lined with heavy 370gm interlining, giving extra warmth in the winter and also adding a plush, quality look and feel.

Made up in sustainably sourced fabric and made with a pinch pleat header.

It’s often the quieter fabrics that makes the biggest impact adding texture warmth and character without overwhelming a space. The blind with the full length pinch pleat curtains help the room flow, bringing the open plan kitchen and dining area as one. And how cute is the little blind in the utility. The little details!

This fabric is the Indira fabric in the Indigo colourway. The wrought iron pole is made in the village by the local blacksmith.

The Pure Edit is one of the companies I supply fabric from. This is one of the books we’ve invested in. Such a wonder array of fabrics in this one book alone. There a lot more books in this range and from the company. I have a good selection which are all available to browse in my studio, by appointment. What do you think?

I previously made this blind to fit outside the recess, so had side returns on too. Due to a change of home this blind was able to be recommissioned. Typically it was just 1cm too wide for this window and the returns needed taking off, so I made adjustments. It’s great to be able to reuse when there’s absolutely nothing wrong. An addition of a cute lampshade to accompany the already made cushions, that’s another of their rooms complete.
