A little life update 🌿

I’ve been quieter here for the past few days because we’ve been away, and honestly, I’ve been very tired too.

Behind the scenes, I’m still slowly bringing the very first Creative & Curious Mail Club envelope together. It isn’t quite finished yet, and I’m deliberately keeping most of it hidden because I want opening it to feel like a genuine surprise.

This little club is about noticing more, making space for curiosity and receiving something thoughtful through the post each month. I’m so excited to send the first envelopes out, even if I’m putting them together more slowly than I imagined.

Sometimes creative dreams have to grow around real life, tired days and family adventures. They still count. 🤍

I spotted a sunflower field today and it reminded me of this painting I made a few weeks ago.

Today’s sunflowers seemed smaller than usual, perhaps because of the heat we’ve had this summer, but there was still something hopeful about seeing all that yellow beside the road.

One of the things I love about drawing is that it changes what I notice afterwards. Once I’ve taken the time to paint something, I seem to find echoes of it everywhere.

Perhaps staying curious isn’t always about discovering something completely new. Sometimes it’s about noticing something familiar with fresh eyes.

What has made you stop and look recently?

I saw a photograph of bees among these soft purple flowers on a friend’s feed, and the image stayed with me.

After a few days away from my sketchbook, it felt like the right place to begin again. Not an elaborate comeback. Just paint, paper and an image I didn’t want to forget.

Sometimes the things that linger are the things asking to be drawn.

A little breakfast doodling to ease myself back into my sketchbook.

Nothing polished or planned. Just tiny drawings, a few quiet minutes and the reminder that creativity doesn’t always need to become a finished piece. I need to take the pressure off after a few days away from said sketchbook.

Maybe creativity gets easier when we stop expecting everything we make to be good.

I’ve been rebuilding my creative practice through regular sketchbook drawing and watercolour painting, and I’m learning to value the experimenting, unfinished pages and little mistakes just as much as the pieces I love.

When did you last make something purely because you enjoyed it?

Today’s watercolour sketch was inspired by a simple watering can and a sign that read, “Water where you’re planted.”

This was inspired by the thought that creativity, like a garden, grows through small, consistent acts of care. Every sketch is part of my journey as an illustrator, documenting the stories hidden in everyday moments.

I’ve been spotting bees everywhere lately, so one finally found its way into my sketchbook.

As I was painting, I learnt that a single bee might not seem like it’s making much of a difference, but thousands of tiny visits from bee to flower help gardens and wild places thrive.

It reminded me that small, consistent actions matter more than we often realise.

Whether you’re learning something new, chasing a dream or simply trying to get through a difficult week, don’t underestimate the impact of one small step at a time.
