I’ve been thinking for some time about the kind of things I want to make at Keiyosa.

When making becomes a business, it’s difficult not to focus on repeatability. How quickly can I make it? Can I batch it? Can I keep it in stock?

They’re important questions, but I’ve realised I don’t always want them to dictate what I make.

I’ve been longing to get back to making things simply because I’m excited to make them — even if they take too long, involve an unnecessary amount of work, or only make sense in very small numbers.

So I’m going to start making Limited Editions at Keiyosa.

Not scarcity for the sake of scarcity, but small runs that give me room to experiment with materials, processes and ideas without worrying about whether everything needs to scale.

I’ve written more about why I’m taking Keiyosa in this direction in the first entry of the Journal.

And I’ve already started making the first one.

Making the Seigaiha Limited Edition —

The bases are starting to stack up.

Each one is CNC machined from oak, with the solid brass pen rest cut, rounded and fitted individually.

Seeing them together like this is one of those satisfying points in a project where all the separate processes finally start looking like a collection.

Next, the printed ink pot bodies can finally meet their bases.

A small detail for a box with a very special purpose.

Engraving the underside of this custom Kumiko ring box with the couple’s names before it began its journey from our workshop in England — all the way to Peru. 🇬🇧 → 🇵🇪

The last ever headphone stand in this design is heading out of the workshop very soon. It’s a somber moment to realise that the incredible company which made the leather pieces for these stands was over 140 years old before they ceased to exist.

Small details, cut slowly.

A chamfer forming on oak, followed by the final engraving — simple steps, but the ones that define the finished piece.

Everything is designed and made in-house, one pass at a time.
