Abou El Aala Tiles & Cast Stone

Abou El Aala Tiles & Cast Stone Handcrafted cast stone home décor & tiles by 4th generation Egyptian artist Lotfy Abou El Aala.

Designed & made in England using traditional craftsmanship & pure crushed marble. Timeless pieces, individually handcrafted to suit your home and business Tile making is in my blood, as a 4th generation tile make I have been around tiles and the marble industry since before I could walk. Back in 1992 my dad used to own a tile factory in Egypt, it is here from the age of 10 that I started to learn.

My brothers and I used to help before and after school until we were old enough to work full time. My oldest brother and I became very well known as a tiles makers and decided to fly to Libya where the tile market was more in demand. In Libya I managed my own tile business and following this started a factory with my brothers back in Egypt. In 2012 I moved to England where I now live, and took a break from tiles whilst working in the hospitality sector. But I have never stopped thinking about tiles as they are in my blood. Over these years I have been developing the process and I am excited to be returning to my first passion, and bringing my style of tiles to the UK. The tiles I make are designed and hand made using traditional Egyptian methods adapted and tested for use in the UK. Created with specific mix that includes cement, crushed marble and fine pigments to create colourful, stylish creations. Each tile is individually crafted not mass produced, which means that whilst each chosen pattern creates tiles that are similar, each tile will be individual and have variations. They are polished and sealed to give them a shine that is also non slip. In hot climate countries like Egypt, Italy, and Morocco these tiles are typically used in all buildings to help keep them cool. Here they can be used in gardens as paths and on patios, in the home on walls, floor and ceilings, and in shops and retail places to create colourful vibrant spaces.

✨ The Story Behind My Work – Part 10: Why Handmade Matters

In a world where so many things are made quickly and produced in huge numbers, I choose to do things differently.

I choose handmade.

When you buy one of my pieces, you’re not buying something that has come off a production line. You’re buying something that has been carefully created by my own hands, with time, patience and experience behind it.

Every piece has its own character.

The colours can move differently.
The patterns can change.
The natural character of the stone can reveal something unexpected.

And that’s exactly what I love about handmade craftsmanship.

Perfectly identical isn’t the goal.

Creating something beautiful, carefully made and genuinely unique is.

For me, handmade also means keeping alive the knowledge my father passed on to me and the cast stone tradition that has been part of my family for generations.

So when you choose handmade, you’re not only choosing an object for your home.

You’re choosing the time, skill, passion and story behind it.

And that’s something a machine can never truly replace. ❤️

Crafted by hand.
Inspired by generations.
Made to last.

✨ From My Hands to Your Home – Part 9: The Finished Piece

And finally… the moment everything comes together. ❤️

From a carefully prepared mix to a finished piece ready to become part of someone’s home.

By the time I reach this stage, every piece has already been through my hands many times — prepared, poured, cured, finished, polished and protected.

But the final result is more than the materials I started with.

It’s the colour that came together perfectly.
It’s the pattern that makes every piece unique — no two are ever exactly the same.

And if you have a particular geometric pattern in mind, I can create bespoke tiles designed for kitchens, bathrooms, floors or garden patios.

It’s the smooth, stone-like finish.

It’s the little details that make the piece feel truly special.

And most importantly, it’s something that carries a little piece of my craftsmanship and my family’s heritage with it.

I don’t want my pieces to simply sit in someone’s home.

I want them to become part of it — to be used, admired, enjoyed and hopefully loved for many years.

That is the reward at the end of the process.

Knowing that something I created with my own hands has found a place in someone else’s home.

From my hands to your home. ❤️

Thank you to everyone who chooses handmade and supports my journey.

Crafted by hand.
Inspired by generations.
Made to last.

✨ From My Hands to Your Home – Part 8: The Final Protection

After all the work that has gone into creating a piece, there is one important stage before it is ready to leave my hands.

The final finish. ✨

Every piece is carefully prepared and sealed to help protect its surface and preserve the beauty I have created throughout the journey.

The colour, the movement of the pattern and the smooth stone-like finish can now truly shine.

But sealing isn’t simply about appearance.

It’s about giving each piece the protection it deserves so it can be enjoyed as part of someone’s home—not just today, but for years to come.

By this point, a piece has already passed through many stages: careful preparation, casting, curing, hand-finishing and polishing.

Now I take one final look at every detail.

Is the finish up to my standard?

Does the piece have the quality i expect?

Would I be proud to put my name on it? This is the most important question

Because when I put Abou El Aala on a piece, I’m not just putting my name on a product.

I’m putting my family’s craftsmanship on it.

✨ From My Hands to Your Home – Part 7: Revealing the Stone

This is where patience meets craftsmanship.

Once a piece has been fully cured and carefully inspected, the next stage begins—bringing its true character to the surface.

Every piece is individually hand-finished and polished. This is not simply about making a surface smooth; it’s about revealing the depth of the colours, the natural movement of the pattern and the beauty within the cast stone.

As the surface develops, something special happens.

The colours become richer.
The pattern begins to come alive.
And what started as a carefully prepared mixture slowly reveals itself as a piece with its own character.

This stage requires a trained eye and a steady hand. I don’t rush it, because the final finish can make all the difference between an ordinary piece and something that feels truly special.

Hand-finished with the same care and standards I was taught from the beginning.

Crafted by hand. Inspired by generations. Made to last.

⭐ From My Hands to Your Home – Part 6: The Reveal

There is something special about the moment a piece is released from its mould.

But for me, it’s not a moment of hoping for a good result.

It’s a moment of seeing the result of a process I have learned, practised and refined over many years.

My father taught me that quality doesn’t happen by chance. It comes from following the right standards, respecting the materials and paying attention to every detail from the very beginning.

Those lessons are still with me every time I create.

When a piece comes out of the mould, I already know what I am looking for—clean details, balanced colour, beautiful character and the quality I expect from my work.

Of course, every handmade piece has its own natural personality, and that’s what makes it special. But the standard of craftsmanship should always remain high.

I don’t make a piece and simply hope it will be good.

I make it with the knowledge, standards and experience that were passed down to me by my father.

And that is one of the greatest parts of continuing my family’s craft ❤️😊

Crafted by hand. Inspired by generations. Made to last.

✨ From My Hands to Your Home – Part 5: The Moment It Comes to Life

This is the stage where everything begins to come together.

After careful preparation, each piece is individually hand-poured into its mould using techniques that have been refined through generations of my family’s craftsmanship.

There are no shortcuts, no rush, and no mass production.

Every pour requires patience, experience and attention to detail. It’s one of those moments where skill and creativity work together, knowing that every piece will develop its own unique character.

Although I follow the same high standards every time, no two creations are ever exactly alike. That’s the beauty of handcrafted cast stone—each piece has its own personality and tells its own story.

This isn’t just about making home décor.

It’s about creating something meaningful, something made with pride, and something that will become part of someone else’s home for years to come.

Crafted by hand, Inspired by generations and overall made with love😊
