September is looking rather lovely.

I’ve got two events coming up, and I’d love to see some familiar faces… and hopefully meet a few new ones too!

First up is Sheffield Art in the Gardens, followed by Staithes Festival of Art. I’ll have original paintings, prints and smaller pieces with me, so there’ll be plenty to have a look at.

If you’re nearby, do come and say hello! It’s always great to see the work out of the studio and, more importantly, to have a proper chat with people who are kind enough to follow along here.

If you're in York, there is still time to see my work alongside Vic Sayers beautiful landscapes at No. 2 Blossom Street.

The exhibition runs until the last weekend of August, so just a week and a bit left! If you have been meaning to pop in, this is your chance!

My first international commission is on its way to Ravenna in Italy.

Ravenna is famous for its Byzantine mosaics, whole walls covered in gold that catch the light in the most incredible way. So when this commission came in for poppies and cornflowers, I knew I wanted the gold to feel like a little nod to that: not just a background but part of the story!

We did the whole thing through online translators and honestly, it was such fun! It made something that could have felt tricky feel completely easy, and there's something lovely about finding a way to talk about colour and flowers and gold leaf with someone on the other side of Europe, even without sharing a language.

È stato un vero piacere parlare con te e dare vita alla tua visione. Grazie di cuore per avermi affidato la tua idea e per la tua fiducia. Spero che questo dipinto ti porti tanta gioia quanta ne ha portata a me crearlo.

I've realised it's been a while since I properly introduced myself, so hello if you're new here!

I'm Zosia, a mixed media artist based in Yorkshire, and I've been making and showing work for nearly a decade now.

I actually studied Medieval History, not art, though I found my way in eventually through illustration. Art and the making of things was a huge part of our home growing up. Both my parents trained at the Academy of Fine Arts in Warsaw, so I think I was probably doomed from the start.

What I paint is a mix of landscape, architecture and ornament: old buildings, decorative details, weathered surfaces, shells, textiles, critters, gilding. I like the crookedness of a handmade thing (and I like the gold for reasons that have nothing to do with Klimt!) It probably stems from the ornate solemnity of Polish Catholic churches, that instinct to lavish care and attention on an object: honouring it in the making.

Each painting gets built slowly, layer by layer, texture and paint and gold leaf, until it feels as much like an object as an image.

Thank you for being here and following along, whether you've been here for years or just found me. I'm very grateful you're part of this little corner of the internet!

These twin pieces were developed from sections of 19th century ornamental scrollwork. A fragment of ornament, like a relic framed.

There's something I love about the idea of finding a scrap of treasure and being able to take it home. Like rooting around in a derelict castle and unearthing a fragment worth salvaging... a squirrel with an architectural nut, hoarding it away before it's lost for good.

Lovely seeing these two hanging together at the Sanctum private view.

This has been one of my most textured pieces so far. One of the best parts of working on a larger scale! I have used cloth and plaster alongside the paint and acrylic media to build up real depth in the vegetation, so it's not just colour on a flat surface.
I wanted to bring across the sense of a teeming mass, with structure to the leaves and undergrowth, a tangle. Up close you can see sections catching the light. Some parts are described with paint, others with form.
