In a Georgian folktale titled "The Frog's Skin" (BakaKis Khokera), the youngest son is destined to marry a frog. Since obeying fate was his father's last wish, he has no choice but to bring her home.
What is fascinating about this story is that the woman transforms her shape here as well; she sheds her frog skin, turns into a beautiful maiden, and takes care of the household in secret from her husband. Naturally, when the impatient youth discovers this, he burns the skin so she can no longer turn back into a hideous creature. However, she warns him that this act will turn even the king into their enemy—and that is precisely what happens...
In this and other folktales, the woman constantly tries to convince the youth to keep their happiness, abundance, or beauty hidden from the "evil eye." This is particularly interesting because, in fairy tales, the woman often symbolizes the human soul (Samsvinveli / Psyche). Yet, the youth repeatedly breaks this promise out of impatience and brings misfortune upon himself...
