Little Useful Things by KOUTSIKOU #2

Those tiny symbols on your care labels are actually telling you exactly what to do.

Wash, bleach, dry, iron, dry clean: you don’t need to memorise them.
You just need to know how to read them.

Save this for the next time you’re staring at a label wondering what it means.

We often get asked what KOUTSIKOU means.

The short answer is: it’s our family name.

The longer answer starts in the 1970s, with my mother making cloth dolls by hand, and somehow leads all the way to Kythira, Hydra and to what KOUTSIKOU is today.

PART ONE — What we’re taking with us.

There are so many things we want to carry with us from this season that one post was never going to be enough.

And the season isn’t over yet. There are still places to go, people to meet, things to discover, and moments we don’t know about yet.

But in the meantime, we wanted to start putting some of it together.

A little photographic diary of KOUTSIKOU’s summer, or at least, one part of it.

Beauty and quality.
The two things we never stop stalking.

Mystery 😂
A rare luxury in the age of social media.

People.
So many in Hydra, we could make an entire post about them.
Can we??? 😍

Cats.
If you know me, you know it’s a complicated relationship.
After all these years, I’m learning to live with them.
They’re not all learning to live with me. 😂

❤️

Hydra, over the years.

A random selection of photos, people, summers and moments from the past few years.

Some are still here, some aren’t.
Some things have changed, others not so much.

No particular order, no particular reason.

A few versions of me, before KOUTSIKOU.
Different ages, different places, different ideas.

I’m Lea, and this is a little bit of where KOUTSIKOU comes from.

Iceland was a last-minute decision.

After a long summer, I needed to slow down. To be with my family, to breathe, to be somewhere surrounded by nature. And somewhere cold.

Iceland felt almost unreal.

Black earth, green moss, icy blues, endless roads, waterfalls appearing out of nowhere. A landscape so powerful that you mostly just stand there and look.

There was beauty everywhere, but also a strange sense of melancholy. Glaciers that I had imagined immense and frozen were visibly melting. A reminder that even something that should be eternal is now fragile.

I came back rested, but also full of images, colours and textures I know will stay with me.
