To the slow mornings we spent together in Amman, sipping Turkish coffee as she read my cup, cigarette in hand, telling me stories of her childhood in Jerusalem. On the table is a photo from her wedding to my grandfather in 1955 — a moment of love, captured in a city that lives in all our memories.

I never got to see Jaffa — the city my grandparents were forced to leave in 1948. But they spoke of it like a dream: warm nights, open windows, Umm Kulthum singing in the background, and neighbors who felt like family. This painting is not a memory I lived, but one I inherited. It’s my attempt to enter the home they lost, and stay there — even just for one quiet night.
