Carlow Little Theatre Society Carlow's multi-award winning drama group set up in 1944, we first performed in May 1945. Celebrating 80 years of drama in 2025.

Carlow Little Theatre Society is one of the oldest amateur drama groups in Ireland. At 8pm, on Monday 11th December 1944, a group of like minded people got together at Carlow Town Hall to discuss forming a local drama group and thus Carlow Little Theatre Society was born. On 23rd May 1945 we produced our first play ‘The Whip Hand' and since then, we have on average, performed a One Act season and a full length production each year. We welcome all aspiring or established actors and writers wishing to try out new material, as well as anyone with a desire to work with us behind the scenes (Directing, lighting, production, costuming, etc) from aged 16+. To become involved, simply follow our social media updates and then come along to one of our readings or social nights. Alternatively, please feel free to email or PM us. Regards,

The Committee,
Carlow Little Theatre Society.

𝗧𝗛𝗘 𝗖𝗥𝗨𝗖𝗜𝗕𝗟𝗘 𝗶𝗻 𝗥𝗘𝗛𝗘𝗔𝗥𝗦𝗔𝗟

Director Michael Somers putting the cast of The Crucible through their paces at rehearsal last night, as they prepare to bring Arthur Miller’s powerful allegorical play to the stage of the George Bernard Shaw Theatre in VISUAL, Carlow, next month.

This major production brings together an accomplished cast of Carlow and Kilkenny actors to tell one of the most powerful and enduring stories in modern theatre.

Set in Salem, Massachusetts in 1692, The Crucible begins as whispers of witchcraft take hold in a deeply religious community. What starts with a group of young girls and a handful of accusations quickly descends into fear, suspicion and hysteria. Neighbour turns against neighbour, old grievances surface, and accusation becomes a weapon with devastating consequences.

At the centre of the gathering storm is John Proctor, a man forced to confront his own past as the courts demand confessions and names. As fear overwhelms reason and reputation becomes a matter of life and death, Arthur Miller poses a timeless question: what happens when a society chooses accusation over truth?

Powerful, tense and remarkably relevant more than 70 years after it was first performed, The Crucible is a story of conscience, courage, reputation and the terrible price of mass hysteria.

🎭 A special night of theatre at Club D’Art, Carlow

We’re delighted to be involved in a special evening celebrating the work of Irish playwright Barry McKinley, featuring his two one-act plays, The Wonder Wheel and Serengeti.

The Wonder Wheel leads the evening, with Aonghus Óg McAnally reprising his role as Larry, a part he previously performed with Druid in Galway. The award-winning play has already received recognition, and we’re delighted to have Aonghus bring this to Carlow.

He will be joined by Carlow Little Theatre members Deirdre Fleming, Jamie Dockery and Shannon O’Doherty, with Barry McKinley himself taking on the role of the waiter.

Aonghus brings more than 25 years of experience across Irish theatre, film and television. A graduate of Trinity College Dublin’s Samuel Beckett Centre, he is Artistic Director of Rise Productions and has worked with many of Ireland’s leading theatre companies. His solo performance in Fight Night earned him Best Actor at Dublin Fringe and the Bewley’s Little Gem Award.

Jamie and Aonghus will then feature in the second piece of the evening, Serengeti.
