I feel incredibly privileged to be fit, healthy and able to take part in this amazing event for the 5th time.
The very first time I stood on that beach, alongside women who had been through more than I could ever imagine, I was completely in awe of their courage and bravery. That morning I made myself a promise — as long as I am fit, healthy and able, I will keep coming back and stand alongside them.
Today, I still feel exactly the same. I’ll be there again with our Burpees and Bo***es crew, one of the many groups of women who come together on the day — different ages, different shapes, different stories and different reasons for being there, but all supporting the same cause.
None of us knows what life has around the corner. Right now, I am one of the lucky ones — I can do this. I can walk onto that beach, strip away all the things we normally worry about and stand together with an incredible group of women, raising money for a disease that has touched far too many lives.
So if you’ve ever thought about taking part but something has held you back — your age, your shape, your size, embarrassment, nerves, or simply thinking “I could never do that” — please don’t let that be the reason. There is no right age, shape or body for Dip in the Nip. It’s just women, as we are, doing something a little outside our comfort zone for a very important reason.
And if taking the dip isn’t for you, you can still make a difference. Sponsor someone who is, make a donation, share the event or encourage someone else to take part. Every bit of support helps us raise money for a cause that, sadly, means something to so many of us.
I get to do this because I am lucky enough to be able to.
And while I can, I will. ❤️
