Style At No.5 Interiors I help people and businesses get the very best from their spaces, whether that’s a family home, a retail store, or a workplace.

My focus is on how spaces are actually lived in and used, not just how they look.

Before you commit to an extension, a new kitchen, or another round of buying things to make your home work, stop for a minute. Step away from the browser window and drop your credit card!

Be honest, have you spent time figuring out what problem in your home you're actually trying to solve?

I've know how easy it is to jump straight into the decisions: choosing finishes, looking at furniture, getting quotes and making plans.

But if you haven't worked out what's frustrating you about your home and what you need it to do differently, you could spend a lot of money without fixing the underlying problem.

That's why I start with the way you live, not the things you want to buy.

My 90-minute Space Strategy Session is designed to help you understand what's not working, identify your priorities and work out the next steps before committing to bigger decisions.

You don't need more inspiration or ideas. You need a clear direction.

DM me "SPACE" if you're ready to look at your home differently.

Save this post before making your next big home decision and share it with someone who's planning a renovation.

Where should the sink and hob go?

It sounds like a simple kitchen design decision but there are dozens of considerations behind this one question.

How you cook.
How you socialise.
What you want to look at.
How tidy you are.
Where the bins will go.
How you move around the room.
Who else will use the kitchen?
What you want the island to be for.

Thats why its not a decision you can make in isolation. First you start with
1. How you currently live/cook/eat/socialise
2. How you would ideally like to do all of this
3. What's realistic for you, your family, your lifestyle

Like most design decisions there isn't one "right" answer. There is "right for you".

Thats the thinking I bring when I do a Space Strategy Session. We step back from the individual design decisions and look at tge bigger picture first. Your life, your routines, your priorities and what you need your space to do for you.

If you're planning a renovation, extension or major room redesign and dont want to spend thousands making decisions you're not sure about, my Space Strategy Session is a good place to start.

Your home should work for the life you're living.

I'm delighted to be featured in the latest "Limerick Life" magazine talking about something that has become increasingly important in my work: creating spaces that work for the people living/working in them.

One thing I said in the article really sums up how I approach design:
"If your life changes, your space should change to support it."

Children grow up. We start working from home. Our routines change. Our priorities change.
But often our homes don't. We live in the same spaces we designed for who we were 10 years ago.

And that's when we start adapting ourselves to the space instead.

I'm increasingly interested in exploring this whole area through my work, my Psychology of Home course and now through speaking.

The magazine is packed with interesting articles from across Munster too, so get your hands on a copy!

Thanks to Donal O'Regan for the opportunity

And you know its important and you know it will make a difference, but for the life of you, you can't make a decision.

There are just too many decisions to make, too many knock on effects and too many pros and cons for each choice.

After a full day's work, kids to school and activities, dinner, clean up and just "life stuff" it is hard to give these decisions the time they need.

That's what i do for my clients, listen, observe, understand, recommend and most importantly ask the questions you didn't know you needed to think of!

I bring it back to your life, your family, your priorities, your routines, your plas for the future and start the design there.

In the words of my clients this is what I did for them...

"Working with Celine on the interior design of our new build house has been an absolute pleasure...in the end, the outcome exceeded our expectations...reflects our values of sustainability and practicality...every aspect of our interiors feels curated and cohesive.”
- Andrea, Limerick

"A huge amount of work and thought into the design of our new open plan living space. I felt really listened to during the whole process...the design reflected my style and tastes perfectly...the design was given to me in such a way that I can build on it as I find the right pieces for my space"
- Ursula, Limerick

" I really felt that Celine understood what I was looking for and how to best utilise the space and make it work for our daily family life."
- Emma, Tipperary

Our homes aren't simply backdrops to our lives. The spaces around us can influence our behaviour, mood, routines, relationships and sense of wellbeing.

I'm really excited to be bringing this side of my work into an 8-week evening course at Crescent College in Limerick.

THE PSYCHOLOGY OF HOME

How space shapes how we live and feel

Over eight weeks we'll explore the relationship between people and the spaces they inhabit, looking at things like:
✨ how our homes support (or hinder) the way we live
🌿 our connection with nature and the environment
💡 light, colour and our senses
🧘 spaces that support wellbeing
🏡 layout, flow and everyday function
❤️ memories, possessions, identity and belonging

And importantly, it's practical.

Each week we'll take something away to observe, experiment with or try in our own homes. Small changes, rather than big decorating projects.

You don't need to be an interior designer and you don't need to be planning a renovation.

It's about learning to see your home differently and understanding why it feels and works the way it does.

You might be so long living in a home that you don't even think about these things.

You just go through the motions, get up, eat, go to work, come home, eat, sleep. You are so close to it that you cant see if its working in the best way for you, or not.

That's where we start in a Space Strategy Session.

We look at what you need.
How you live.
How you want to feel.
What you want to do in the space.
And we go from there.

I'm really excited to delve into all of this in more detail in my 8 week course "Psychology of Home" starting next Wednesday in Crescent College school.
I'd love you to join me. DM me for more details

Why do I do what I do?

I know deep down within me that the spaces we surround ourselves with impact how we feel and behave.

I see it in my own world, clutter -> stress -> mind racing -> overwhelm -> impact on sleep -> guilt and around again.

Too often we try to change our habits and behaviours without looking at the environment we are in and how it is blocking us.

I want you to have a space that works for you, not anybody else. Your life, your values, your priorities, your home!

This is why i do what I do..

In the words of my clients..
" gave me confidence to proceed with my home renovation project"

"she listened to what we said we wanted and advised us on what we actually needed"

"I knew the feel and atmosphere i wanted but I didn't know how to create it"

"helped me to prioritise on what to focus on initially to make the most impact"

"the changes have greatly improved the rooms, created new spaces for us to enjoy"

"a plan for zoning which included instant, manageable and economical fixes"

Colour drenching is not a new thing, it's been around since the early 20th century when stately homes used a single colour in libraries and drawing rooms to create warmth and intimacy!

It is popular again now, but like everything that comes in and out of fashion it doesn't mean you should automatically do it!!

You need to figure out if it will work for your space.

Before you pick up the paintbrush ask yourself:

What happens in the space?
What time of the day is the space used?
Who uses it?
What are the features of the space?
Where do you want the eye to be drawn?
How high are the ceilings?
How much light does it get?
Do you even like the look of rooms all the one colour?
Where will you stop and start the colour?
Do you mind if your doors are two different colours on each side?
And so on...

Let me know, is it something you'd consider or you've already done?

Not to be harsh but it's your home, your life, your way of living, not anybody else's!

Everyone has their opinion and they are entitled to them, but you don't have to design your home for your friend or your sister or your mother-in-law!

I think the only way to be able to stand strong in the face of "helpful advice" is to know what you need from your home and know why you are doing things a certain way.

It takes time and thinking and maybe a bit of an honest look at how you live and how you want to live, but its worth it.

Your home and the environment you surround yourself with influences how you feel, how you think, how you behave. Your space can support you and help you thrive or it can do the opposite.

Its worth the time and energy to do this work.

If you are ready to design a home or workplace that works for you get in touch. Book a call or drop me a DM.
