Here are a few pictures of a job we completed some time ago. I only recently got the chance to take some photos of the finished project.
We designed, manufactured and fitted the custom joinery throughout. Well done to everyone involved in this project.

The Resolute desk in the Oval Office was built from the timbers of HMS Resolute, a British Arctic exploration ship abandoned in the ice in 1854 while searching for the lost Franklin expedition.

American whalers recovered the ship and the United States government had it restored and returned to Britain in 1856 as a gesture of goodwill, with Queen Victoria personally receiving it at Cowes on the Isle of Wight.

When the Resolute was eventually broken up at Chatham Dockyard in Kent in 1880, Queen Victoria commissioned joiner William Evenden to craft a desk from its oak timbers as a gift to President Rutherford B. Hayes, alongside two smaller tables also made from the ship's wood, one of which remains in the Royal Collection at Kensington Palace.

The hinged panel on the front of the desk, carved with the Presidential seal, was added in 1945 to cover the kneehole space, and it was through this same opening that John F. Kennedy's young son was famously photographed playing while his father worked.

The desk has been used by nearly every president since John F. Kennedy first brought it into the Oval Office in 1961, and in 2015 Prince Charles and the Duchess of Cornwall were shown the desk during a visit to the White House, examining the very timbers that once formed part of a Royal Navy ship.

The Major Oak in Sherwood Forest, Nottinghamshire, is believed to have died after its first spring without new leaves.

Estimated to be up to 1,200 years old, it was one of Britain’s largest and best-known oak trees.

The tree became closely linked with the legend of Robin Hood, whose hollow trunk was traditionally said to have been used as a hideout.

Experts believe its decline was caused by several factors, including age, soil compaction from visitors, structural supports, heatwaves, drought and wider climate pressures.

The Major Oak will remain standing in Sherwood Forest as a natural monument, while its decaying wood continues to provide habitat for wildlife.

A staircase... before it becomes a staircase!

This 3D printed model was produced by the joiner who is making the staircase for one of our jobs on site. He designed the model himself and printed it in his workshop.

It's a simple idea, but a clever one. Being able to hold the staircase in your hand makes it much easier to discuss details.

Many of the ways we communicate and coordinate work on site have changed surprisingly little over the years. It's great to see craftspeople using digital tools in a practical way to support their work and communicate ideas more clearly.

Well done to O Shea joinery for this approach. 👏

A nice little project to wrap up the year 🎄 A contemporary radiator cover with bespoke shelving fitted today, adding warmth and character to the space just in time for Christmas.
