Every journey begins with curious people.
And, that's how this one began.

As we now prepare for Echoes on Stone, we're looking for three such curious volunteers to join us on 29 August.

More than helping us run an exhibition, we're looking to meet people who are genuinely passionate about Karnataka's history, archaeology, prehistory, heritage, and storytelling. If you've ever found yourself fascinated by ancient sites, forgotten stories, or the idea of preserving our shared past, we'd love to hear from you.

This is also an opportunity to get to know the Project SKaAT team and become part of a growing community working to document and celebrate Karnataka's heritage.

Before the exhibition, we'll take you through everything you need to know, so you'll be ready to confidently share these stories with our visitors.

Long before the grand temples of Aihole, Badami, or Belur, Karnataka's earliest inhabitants left behind stories etched on stone.

Echoes on Stone: An Exhibition Exploring Karnataka's Prehistoric Rock Art brings these remarkable paintings into a college setting as part of Sagar Fiesta, introducing the next generation to a chapter of our heritage that often goes unnoticed.

Some of Karnataka’s oldest monuments are still standing among us.

In and around Koira, Bengaluru Rural, menhirs still stand in fields, along roadsides, and within landscapes that have changed around them. Many others have already disappeared, and the ones that remain continue to face pressure from human activity.

During our documentation, we placed the remaining menhirs of this region on our top-priority list for conservation.

We're glad to share that the Department of Archaeology, Museums & Heritage has now begun working towards the conservation of these last remaining menhirs in the region.

This is why we document. Not just to photograph the past, but to make sure the stories and monuments that are still standing today have a chance to remain for tomorrow.

We're delighted to be a part of Voices of the Valley – Indie Film Festival.

Hirebenakal: An Adventure That Found Us follows our journey through one of Karnataka's most remarkable prehistoric landscapes. Created from footage captured during our 2025 Hirebenakal expedition, commissioned by Department of Archaeology, Museums & Heritage, the film reflects on the experience of documenting this extraordinary site and the importance of preserving its rich heritage.

The film will be screened alongside a diverse lineup of stories celebrating the landscapes, people, cultures, and spirit of the Indian outdoors.

One discovery can change how we understand our past.

Deep within the forests of Sandur, Ballari, archaeologists uncovered evidence of what Prof. Ravi Korishettar describes as one of Karnataka's most significant prehistoric discoveries.

According to the Robert Bruce Foote Sangankallu Archaeological Museum findings, this rock shelter preserves evidence of hunter-gatherer occupation dating back more than 10,000 years, located nearly 900 metres above mean sea level in the Sandur schist belt. The excavations have revealed stone tools, faunal remains, ash deposits and multiple occupation layers, helping researchers better understand how people once lived in these forests thousands of years ago.
