Why We Designed It That Way | Part 2
In this project, we created a sliding window between the kitchen and dining area for two simple reasons.
First, it makes the kitchen more accessible. Food, dishes, or other things can be easily passed through the window without having to walk around every time.
Second, we wanted to maintain privacy.
Since the dining table is right outside the kitchen, a clear glass window would allow people sitting there to see everything happening inside the kitchen.
So, we used fluted glass.
It allows light to pass through while keeping the kitchen visually screened from the dining area.
It is a small design detail, but it solves both a practical and a visual problem without making the kitchen feel completely closed off.

This was one of the challenges in this project.
The room was divided into two parts by a wall, which made the space feel more closed than it needed to be.
We removed the wall and introduced an archway instead. This helped connect the two areas while still giving the room a sense of definition.
The goal was not just to remove the wall. It was to make the entire space feel more open, connected, and cohesive.

At first, this may not seem like a major problem. But when you look at how the bathroom is actually used, the door movement starts affecting the entire space.
When the door was opened, it occupied the area beside the WC and came into the path leading towards the shower area. This meant that you could not simply walk into the bathroom and move towards the shower.
You first had to close the door and then move ahead.
That extra movement may sound small, but in a bathroom that is already a compact space, every bit of clear floor area matters. A door swing can easily become an obstruction when it overlaps with the movement area around the WC, basin or shower.
So instead of changing the bathroom layout completely, we looked at the one element that was creating the problem.
The swing door was replaced with a sliding door.
With the sliding door, the door leaf no longer needed space to swing into the bathroom. The area around the WC stayed clear, and the passage towards the shower became much easier to use.
Now, when you enter the bathroom, you don’t have to think about where the door is or close it before moving further inside. You can enter, move past the WC and reach the shower area naturally.
The important part was not simply replacing a swing door with a sliding door. It was identifying what was interrupting the movement in the space and changing the door accordingly.
Sometimes, improving convenience in a home comes from solving exactly these small problems in the layout.

Our brains tend to respond differently to curves than they do to sharp angles.
Sharp corners create sudden changes in direction. Curved forms create a gradual change, so our eyes can follow the shape more easily.
That’s one reason curved furniture can feel softer and more approachable than furniture with strong, angular edges.
