One of the most magical places I have stayed
As summer arrives, there’s an instinct to seek something cooler, softer, and deeply comforting. Something that feels like home.

For me, that feeling lives in Ladakh, where the breeze softens the sun, the mountains quiet the mind, and time seems to slow down. It always brings me back to a serene retreat tucked away in the snowcapped Himalayas, beside the gentle flow of the Nubra River in the Nubra Valley.

Lchang Nang Tree Retreat.

The cuisine, the people, the kindness woven into every detail of its hospitality. If there’s one word that captures the experience, it is home.

Katerina Gordeeva () moves through petals and leaves with a quiet, reverent touch, pressing not just flowers but fleeting moments into permanence. Even the gentlest fragments of nature, buds, stems, and the occasional fruit, are transformed under her hand, composed with an eye that lingers on nuance and grace.

To follow her process is to drift into a slower world, where time softens and beauty is patiently preserved through the delicate ritual of herbarium pressing. Though herbariums may surrender their colours to time, fading into softer echoes of themselves, the art they become refuses to dim, holding on to a different kind of permanence that lives beyond the fragility of nature.

Designed by renowned Sri Lankan architect Professor Narein Perera, Trebartha East:

DM “Teast “ for more details.

The Round House is perched atop a 12-acre cinnamon plantation in Sri Lanka’s tropical south, where sweeping views of rice paddies, tea-covered hills, and lush gardens create a setting that feels both intimate and expansive. The circular design unfolds through four serene bedrooms and an elegant 18m curved pool, inviting slow, sunlit days and moments of quiet retreat.

Crafted using locally sourced timber and detailed with traditional stone and metalwork, the space reflects a deep commitment to sustainability, craftsmanship, and place. Surrounded by thoughtfully cultivated indigenous landscapes and winding garden paths, it is where architecture, nature, and understated beauty come together in perfect harmony.

Morii Design is a Gandhinagar-based studio founded in 2019, rooted in Indian textile traditions and contemporary design. At its core is a commitment to preserving and elevating craft—especially Sujni embroidery—by bringing it into a modern context. .design

Founded by Brinda, a textile designer inspired by her work with artisans in New Delhi, Morii began as a response to the lack of recognition and fair value given to skilled embroiderers. Her experience with Sujni revealed both its quiet beauty and the challenges artisans face in sustaining their craft.

With Kabir, a graphic designer, Morii evolved into a brand that blends traditional embroidery with contemporary aesthetics—creating thoughtful textiles while supporting artisan dignity and long-term livelihoods.

From barefoot, earthy escapes to design-led retreats and that one unforgettable address where everything feels a little more elevated—this is the Andamans, at its most romantic.
