The Reality: Anyone can stick gold foil. The real mastery is in the Muck Work (the 3D embossing). If the base work is sloppy, the gold will only highlight the flaws.

​The Pro Secret: Authentic Tanjore art is about the Lakshana (divine features) of the deity. A painting with perfect gold but "angry" or disproportionate eyes is considered incomplete in the traditional sense.
