Simple ingredients, big comfort. If you know, you know! Pasta with peas, in Italian, “pasta e piselli” is a traditional Italian dish, with its roots in southern Italy, especially Naples and Campania.

What began as “cucina povera” (peasant cooking): simple, affordable, filling food. Peas were widely available (fresh in spring, dried the rest of the year), and pasta was a staple.

Families cooked it as a one-pot meal, often halfway between a soup and a pasta dish.

Melanzane sott’olio (aka Pickled Eggplant): A Family Tradition in a Jar! There’s something magical about recipes that travel through generations. This week, I brought a little bit of San D’Angelo dei Lombardi (a charming village in Southern Italy) into my kitchen by making Melanzane Sott’Olio, a traditional Italian pickled eggplant preserved in fragrant olive oil.

This isn’t just food, it’s a memory. I followed the same steps my grandparents once did: salting, squeezing, boiling in vinegar and water, layering with garlic, hot peppers, and oregano, then sealing everything under golden olive oil.

After a few weeks of curing, these tangy, garlicky, silky eggplants will be the star of antipasto platters, sandwiches, or simply enjoyed on a crusty piece of bread. My favorite!

Every bite tells a story! A story of family, tradition, and love.
