Japan has one of the most beautiful arts & crafts in the world, but the craftspeople behind it live in a time where it is extremely difficult to find successors. The tragedy in this is that a lot of the arts & crafts are dying out because of that. Raising awareness and finding out if there's interest outside of Japan for these products

It takes 180 steps to create an orin — metal singing bowls used for Buddhist meditation and rituals. If any step goes wrong, it can result in an orin that won’t produce sound.

The Rinyo family has inherited the legacy and the labor of this ancient craft. A few times a year, the family gathers from afar to go through the process of molding, casting, firing, and refining the orin.

Each and every orin produces a distinct tone, giving it a unique character and song.

Our Sekimori Ishi collection celebrates the circularity of traditional crafts.

Sekimori Ishi are boundary stones used to subtly signal that a path is closed or off-limits. They make beautiful decor, paper weights, and door stops in modern homes.

Crafted by the son of a tōrō tower maker — the stone sculptures found in traditional Japanese gardens — these pieces conceptualize a renewable solution for the offcuts of Tanba Ishi granite.

Sustainability efforts in traditional crafts must serve both environmental and social needs. This collection, the product of a generational craft legacy utilizing waste materials, remains exemplary.

The Summer Kintsugi Apprentice Program 2026 has come to an end.   Over these weeks, we shared the slow, patient practice of kintsugi, learning to see cracks not as something to hide, but as part of an object’s story.  To our apprentices: thank you for your curiosity, care, and dedication. May what you learned continue to guide your hands and your way of seeing, feeling, and mending.  If you’ve been thinking about becoming an apprentice, join us next summer in 2027 for a 2-month creative immersion during Kyoto’s most lush season.

This location has been our home officially for a year now. On the anniversary of our move to the Gojo area, we want to celebrate everyone who has paid a visit to our new shop and workshop space.

Japan’s holiday of remembrance is upon us. Celebrated for over 500 years, Obon honors the spirits of those departed.

In Kyoto you can view several traditional customs. See thousands of paper lanterns set to drift on the Katsura river in Arashiyama that guide visiting spirits back to the afterlife. You can also watch bonfires shaped as kanji, boats, and tori gates burn across five of Kyoto’s surrounding mountains.

Our office and shipping function will be closed for Obon, and normal operations will resume August 17. We appreciate your patience.
