Keizan Kiln — Underglazing (Filling in the Patterns)

using a thick brush soaked in plenty of cobalt pigment.

Born into a family of potters,
Koji Ichikawa（at the time of shooting） grew up surrounded by the craft.

Helping in the workshop was part of everyday life —
not something special, but something natural.

At Kozan Kiln,
tradition is not passed down by age,
but by skill.

In a family of many siblings,
the one with the greatest ability continues the legacy.

There was no clear beginning,
no defined “training” —
only a life shaped by watching, learning, and doing.

Craft is not something he chose.

It is something he has always lived.
