Antique, very rare Yüncü (bearded) Kilim-carpet hybrid, which means two techniques combined, a flat weave with hand-knotted pile bands. Woven in the north west of Anatolia, in outstanding condition and one of the most special pieces in our collection.

Objects have an aura and for some, a meaning only ours.

Masumiyet Müzesi (Museum of innocence), a novel by Nobel-laureate novelist Orhan Pamuk, now a Netflix series in which the author himself appears in the last episode, is a captivating love story between Kemal and Fusun. Throughout the relationship as it developed, Kemal kept and held on to objects accumulating enough to tell his story through these, inspired by the museums “nobody ever visits”.

“Every encounter between a person and an object tells a story. The time I bought this white purse, the time I lost this earring, the time I saw this newspaper, there was a story. When I saw this crow out the window. When I washed my hands in this sink tears streaming down my face, When I picked up this cigarette butt and kept it… I was in love with her. Then another cigarette butt, and then another.”

Today, an actual “Museum of Innocence” established by the author himself, sits in the Çukurcuma neighbourhood of Beyoğlu, Istanbul and displays a collection evocative of everyday life and culture of Istanbul during the period in which the novel is set.
