【Emerge】 【A Place Within】
I have always enjoyed observing people.
Sometimes, in the same space, some people freely engage and share themselves, while others quietly remain in a corner. It does not mean they do not want to participate; perhaps, at that moment, they simply need a space of their own.
While walking through a park one day, I watched flowers and leaves moving gently in the wind. The flowers opened toward the sunlight, while the leaves quietly offered shade and protection. I realized that neither was better than the other. Flowers bloom outward and meet the world; leaves grow inward and quietly protect life. They simply exist in different ways.
It made me think that people are much the same.
Every day, thoughts and ideas emerge within us. Some invite us to open ourselves and meet the world; others settle quietly, asking us to pause, turn inward, and spend time with ourselves.
This became the starting point of these sculptures. The flowers and leaves growing from each head are extensions of our inner world—our thoughts and ideas as they emerge and settle. The small figure within represents the different inner states we experience.
I hope viewers will not notice the figure immediately, but instead walk around the sculptures and search for it.
In Emerge, perhaps they will find it quite quickly and think,
“There you are.”
A quiet, unforced encounter—like a thought finally ready to emerge and meet the world.
In A Place Within, they may need to look from another angle before discovering,
“So here you are.”
At that moment, perhaps they are not only finding the figure, but also discovering a quiet place within themselves.
Throughout our lives, we move between these two states: sometimes allowing our thoughts to emerge and reach toward the world; sometimes returning inward and giving ourselves a place to rest.
Both are natural. Both are worthy of being embraced with kindness.
