I am an entrepreneur and a businesswoman in Malaysia and a global citizen. Arts and crafts are one of my hobbies since young. I am always curious about shapes and materials, how it contributes to our space in aesthetic designs. My journey to making handmade beauty products started when I did my discovery scuba diving in 2013. I was awed by the underwater world, the untouched natural beauty, the un
polluted environment and colourful sea life. It is true nature heals us (in many ways). I believe these aspects can be conserved, restored and used sustainably while simultaneously meeting other global societal goals. I want to start from "home". I took up several local handmade classes making my own natural beauty products such as soaps, lotions, shampoos, scrubs, just to name a few. And I have benefitted from online courses such as aromatherapy, natural healing using plant-derived and raw herbs, and botany studies. As mentioned before, I want to start from home-and handmade goods are more likely to use natural materials; regular plastic is not a common material. Craftspeople will recycle or repurpose materials. After 2 years of taking all these courses, I have given away many of my handmade products for family and friends. I take feedback seriously and continuously improve my work of art and science. And finally, in October 2020, Deon Meraki Sdn. is incorporated. It took me 7 years. All handcrafted goods have something of the maker in them. When a handmade object is acquired, an invisible human bond is created between the maker and the user. That is the meaning of "Meraki"-often use to describe doing something with soul, creativity, or love. Put "something of yourself" into what you're doing. Deon Meraki aims to educate and inspire people to support locally produced products that are safe and environmentally friendly for sustainable beauty, wellness and health-promoting; crafted for the aspiring modern tropical lifestyle. "Given by nature, made with Meraki."
