The more I work on this piece, the more I realise I’m not just making a map.

I’m discovering stories, details and connections I somehow never stopped to look at before.

And honestly, I’m enjoying the process of discovering Africa all over again. 🌍

Episode 3 is about one of those discoveries.

AFRICA IS BIGGER THAN THIS. 🌍

Welcome to Episode 1.

A little while ago, I painted Africa on a 35 × 40 inch canvas using ropes.

I combined macramé techniques with layering, following the lines of the continent and slowly building a colourful interpretation of Africa with fibre.

I loved the piece.

But the more I looked at it, the more I felt like I wasn’t done.

Because Africa is bigger than this.

Bigger than the way we have drawn her.
Bigger than the way we have represented her.
Bigger than the space we have often given her.

Africa is a giant — rich in culture, creativity, people, land and resources.

So I’m taking the map and making it bigger.

Much bigger.

This time, I’m working on a 5 × 4 ft canvas.

And I want to take you through the entire process — from the first cord to the final piece.
