pov: you’re invited to a brunch and the theme is tropical 🍍🥂

raahi living started three years ago. raahi means traveler in hindi — the brand exists to bottle the beauty of the world outside home and bring a little of it back with you.

we believe the universe tends to connect you with who you’re meant to find. that’s how we stumbled on .es, a spanish brand designing tableware with real personality. it felt like raahi’s cousin — same instinct, completely different medium. only later did we learn melali means traveler too, in balinese.

two brands, two worlds, same word, same message.

we had a tropical brunch on the calendar, and putting the two together felt less like styling and more like it was meant to happen.

maybe that’s the real lesson in all of this — the things worth having on your table find their way there on their own. you just have to set it.

save this for the next table you build with intention. 🍍

every Raahi Living piece starts as a sketch on my dining table in Amsterdam before it ever reaches India, where our artisans hand block print it onto natural fabric. this dress took months to get right and finally launched last summer. in june of this year, I found out someone in China had copied it exactly and was selling it, cheaply made, in boutiques across the US. this is that story — the discovery, the digging, and what I decided to do about it.

small business owners know their traffic. so when 190+ sessions hit my site from China in a single day, for around 5 days straight — a country Raahi Living has never shipped to — I noticed immediately. i told myself it was probably a post going viral somewhere I couldn’t see. i didn’t yet know it was the first sign of something else entirely.

three months later, this photo landed in my messages. a woman I’d never met, in a boutique I’d never worked with, wearing what looked exactly like my dress. same silhouette, same block print pattern, same everything. as a small brand, you know your own work in your sleep — and this wasn’t a coincidence.

my manufacturing partner in India, who first spotted it, sent me the initial photo. from there, we reverse-image-searched it together and kept finding more — boutique after boutique, online store after online store, all selling what looked like an identical version of a dress I designed and hand block printed in Jaipur. it wasn’t one bad actor. it was a supply chain. and yes, i’ve tagged some of them.

i put the two photos next to each other and stared for a long time. same print, same cut, same silhouette — down to the zipper placement and style, something I’m genuinely particular about. the kind of detail you can’t get right by guessing. someone had the real dress in hand.

this is the photo that confirmed it. we zoomed in on the fabric hanging on the rack and realized: this was never hand block printed. it was a digital print designed to look like ours — right down to mimicking the slight imperfections that come from real hand-printing. the description on the boutique website read polyester. ours is always cotton.

here’s how it likely happened: someone ordered the real d

tablescaping shouldn’t be complicated. there’s a few things you need to create an atmosphere, or tell a story.
- napkins - even if your table has nothing on it, it should have napkins!
- candle holders - different textures tell a different story. ceramic, glass, brass, antique. all different vibes.
- napkin rings - to help you with funky napkin folds and adding a little personality

- taper candles - in lots of different shapes, sizes and colours. you will use these more than you initially think. not only for decor but mood and ambience in the evenings
- ribbon bows - tie them on your candles, around your cutlery, on the stem of your glass. minimum effort, maximum impact
- flowers - pick them from your garden, get them at your grocery shop, or go to the florist for in season gorgeousness. always the prettiest thing at the table

- glassware - can be coloured, textured, mixed and matched - all tells a story and sets the scene
- cutlery - bamboo, ceramic, gold, silver - tie it into your theme
- plates - mix and match patterns, florals, stripes, hand painted, colours - the most unusual combo is usually the best combo

- placemats - adds visual delight and cohesiveness
- a clean foundation to your table - a wooden table, a patterned tablecloth, a plain tablecloth, a clean marble. whatever it is, it’s part of the story so choose it well
