Week 3/3 in Japan 🇯🇵❤️

We’re just back home and I miss Japan already ( is that normal? ☺️)

The last week we spend at Izu region and then come back to Tokyo for the last days. Got this beautiful black house for the end. 😍

Izu Region 🍵🏔️💧
The Japan’s real wasabi capital. Fed by the cold, mineral-rich spring waters flowing down from Mount Amagi.
A walk through the forest, passing waterfalls, and seeing the wasabi fields up close - so spectacular!

A beautiful glimpse into the power of nature and how Japan takes care of it.

I was never a tea person 🍵🍃, but this green tea which was served our hotels/ryokans, is so good. There’s always a little cute teapot and cups. I love the smell of it, and actually, I’ve also started to like the taste…
🍵 and bringing some back home 😊

Week 2/3 in Japan 🇯🇵❤️

A charming week in Kyoto, avoiding the tourist spots. We did a few of them on our first trip, and we knew we don’t want to go there again ☺️

So there was no rush. We took bikes, visited temples (with barely any people), I drank my matcha and local gin 🍵🍹, and enjoyed a onsen every day at our hotel. It was chill and relaxing.

Little galleries, tiny stores, antique gems . Kyoto will take care of you 😉 if you like this kind of vibe.

Uji, close to Kyoto, is known for the production of green tea and matcha, so you’ll see it everywhere here. 🍃🍃🍃

Funny thing: I tried matcha ice cream for the first time 10 years ago, together with cookies and local sweets, and I loved it. It was hard to find them back home. Just a few years later, the matcha trend hit Europe.

It’s also the coffee shops and bakeries I see trending here now, with long lines for bagels and croissants 🤷🏻‍♀️
Not a fan. I want Japan to stay Japan. 🇯🇵❤️

Week 1 / 3 in Japan 🇯🇵❤️

It has been a long-time dream of ours to show our boys the country we love so much. We were here 10 years ago on a business trip, but our fascination with Japanese culture and architecture goes way, way further back.

And people often ask me: “Why Japan?”
Well… if you’re an architect, you probably don’t need an explanation. 🫣

It’s an endless source of inspiration.
Everything here feels like it has been designed with an almost ridiculous level of attention to detail. From the way food is presented (and I’m not even talking about the food itself!), to the architecture, the streets, the tiny details, the organization… even the toilets seem to have their special treat 😂

And above all, the kindness and respect people show here. It’s honestly hard to put into words.

There is so much to observe, appreciate and learn from this beautiful country. ❤️
