Most people never start because they’re waiting to be ready.

But growth doesn’t begin with perfection.
It begins with the first attempt.

FAIL = First Attempt In Learning.

This piece is part of my FAIL project embracing failure as the foundation of growth, and embracing what is rather than what was supposed to be.

Start before you’re ready.

If you want to be creative, you have to be in a state of play. And play means not knowing how it ends. It means starting before you’re ready, making before you’re sure, and calling every failure what it really is: a first attempt in learning.

Summer is here.

Ode to the ice cream that drips down my wrist,
to the tan lines that prove that I truly exist.
Ode to the flip-flop that snaps mid-stride,
and the beach bag that eats my keys deep inside.

Ode to the barbecue smoke in my hair,
to sitting outside on a wobbly chair.
Ode to the rosé at half past three,
and pretending that one glass is “hydrating me.”

Ode to the sand in places unknown,
to ignoring each email, each ping of my phone.
Summer, you’re sticky, you’re sweaty, you’re great —
please never leave. Or at least… stay till late. ☀️

Meet the artists of the third edition of Lens&Canvas!

AMY MAYE ART

Amy Barratt-Jones (1984) is a visual artist whose practice centers on transformation through imperfection. Working primarily with sculptural objects and spatial interventions, she explores the territory between control and surrender, that is where growth begins.
Her earlier series NOW examined presence and stillness in an overstimulated world. Her current body of work, FAIL (First Attempt In Learning), takes a different approach: embracing vulnerability as a creative force. Each piece is created in a single attempt, no revision, no safety net. What appears minimal on the surface carries within it risk, doubt, and courage.
FAIL reframes failure not as the opposite of success, but as its foundation. By working intuitively and allowing uncertainty into her process, Barratt-Jones transforms fear into form. Her work creates space for viewers to slow down, reflect, and recognize themselves in the gap between perfection and possibility, where confidence and happiness truly begin.

The message is getting out there. 💕

This past month F.A.I.L. was featured in Magazine, nieuws (full spread), , .club and I had a really good talk with on

Failure creates growth.
Everyone knows it.
But knowing it and actually living it are two very different things.

The moment you stop being afraid of failing -really stop -something shifts. You stop waiting. You stop perfecting. You just go.

That’s what F.A.I.L. is about. First Attempt In Learning.
Not a motivational quote on a wall.
A reminder you actually believe.

We’re just getting started. 🔥
