So many yummy glass textures in this piece. Don’t you think there’s something so delicious about this colour palette? I’ve always been drawn to red gold and green together. And I adore the flow of Art Nouveau designs.

I’ve been playing with this idea for a while.. which began simply as the rose in an oval. It sat there cut out, to the side of the workbench for a few months, before I had the time to revisit it. That’s when I felt like it needed something extra, so I drew a border to encircle the rose, in my favourite style - Art Nouveau.
I’m pleased with the design as a whole now.

I’ve chosen a rare and beautiful emerald green textured glass for the main colour of the border area, to coordinate with the four green faceted gems. This pattern of old glass is called Imperial, and was manufactured in England over a century ago.
My client supplied me with the four red rondels, which I think have fitted together very nicely into the thin red flashed glass border.

The surgery was long, and messy. With a good dose of critical thinking 🤔
I’ve stitched it back up again now, and began carefully grinding the old lead clean for soldering. Phew!

Hunting through my cache of old glass, finding suitable pieces for this leadlight repair job.
My client asked if I would change out the four odd coloured round gems, to four that are the same colour. So luckily, I found these lovely vibrant green ones that will do the trick nicely.
Next step, is to cut the panel open to remove the broken pieces of glass and scrape the old cement out of the lead came.

This very old Leadlight has many breaks in it, and the outer border is completely missing. It’s going to take some time and toil, to repair this panel for my client. But, I’m prepared for the challenge! 🧐
