A quick note on sustainability.

People often ask us if we are 'sustainable'. It's a tricky word and concept that we often over-complicate.

For us it is real simple. You see, if our buildings are still around in 100 or 200 years time because people covet them and want to maintain, upgrade or convert them, then they are inherently the most sustainable buildings of all.

If something is timeless, it is sustainable. For a building to endure, it must be useful and durable. And above all, it must be beautiful. This is what we strive for with Kokoro.

Only time will tell.

My Prefab experience.

I spent many years in the belief that 'prefab' construction was the answer to our housing problems. I even started a prefab factory. While I no longer believe it's a panacea to our lack of quality housing, off-site volumetric construction works particularly well for smaller, intimate spaces like Kokoro.

Many promoters of prefab promote the 'economy of scale' fallacy. We prefer to do things at a smaller scale, where attention to detail and quality matters.

For Kokoro, prefab can work perfectly. It's about balance - the efficiency and practicality of building small spaces under cover, while still being able to create a beautiful product that speaks of craftsmanship.

Thanks to our prefab partners at Ecopod we're able to bring the promise of Kokoro to life, one perfect building at a time.

At Kokoro we value the artisanal over the industrial.

That means a preference for natural materials over processed materials.
Mainly built by people not machines.
Human-scaled and proportioned, not optimised for cost.
Where details are celebrated.

We spend so much time in our homes that it seems right for them to be crafted from materials that resonate with us on a natural level.

We believe that the human hand imbues more soul into a product than the mechanical. It feels like the right way to go to make a product that has good vibes.
