KIWI — FROM THE QUIET OF THE FOREST, A LITTLE LIGHT.

A call in the darkness. A rustle beneath the ferns. The anticipation of seeing something extraordinary.

The elusive kiwi has stayed in Lyzadie’s imagination since those nights exploring Stewart Island with her family. Now, its unmistakable silhouette takes on another life.

Introducing the KIWI Wall Light, part of LyZadie Collection By Design.

Pale carved stone meets a rugged, earthy edge. A long brass beak carries a suspended glow, bringing warmth and a little unexpected character to the room. There is something quietly playful about this ancient bird holding a light for us.

Created with highly skilled stone carver Amie Redpath and metal maker Q Metal, the piece celebrates the meeting of natural material, imagination and the human hand. Texture invites a closer look; light reveals the carving.

KIWI — AN ANCIENT SPIRIT. A SCULPTURAL PRESENCE.

Lyzadie remembers staying up all night with her family on Stewart Island, hoping to catch a glimpse of a kiwi. They heard its call in the darkness, but never saw one.

Later, on Rotoroa Island in the Hauraki Gulf, they finally had the privilege of seeing and touching one (see last slide of a young Kiwi about to be released in the wild on Rotoroa Island). There is something about these elusive birds that moves her. Their rarity, their unusual form, that almost prehistoric presence. A living connection to an ancient Aotearoa.

That encounter stayed with her, becoming the inspiration for KIWI, a new LyZadie Collection By Design.

Brought to life with highly skilled stone carver Amie Redpath Amie Redpath and metal maker Q Metal Q Metal Designs , the collection carries her fascination with this extraordinary bird into beautiful, sculptural pieces for the home.

Inspired by this land, crafted by her makers.

THE ART OF THE EMBRACE - Some stories begin with a feeling.

A moment of connection. Being held. Feeling safe. Feeling loved.

Liquid Embrace began as a poem, then became a drawing, a love story that slowly took shape through flowing forms.

What began with words is evolving into something new, bringing together art, nature, a shared appreciation for beauty and the everyday ritual of caring for ourselves.

Before a piece finds its place in your home, it spends time in a maker’s hands.

Hands that shape, carve, weave, sow and polish. That follow the grain and feel when something is right.

We design with a story in mind. Our makers bring it to life, adding their skill, patience and care to every detail.

These photographs capture Ronja Schipper Ronja Schipper in her studio, cutting and sewing discarded bicycle inner tubes to create the feathers for our TUI furniture. Alongside them is Piñatex Piñatex® , a biomaterial made using pineapple leaf fibres, a byproduct of the pineapple industry.

For us, this is the heart of luxury: beautiful materials, thoughtfully chosen, and people who care deeply about what they make.

Beauty takes time. Soul comes through the hands.

THE RED THREAD — A STORY HELD IN WOOD

For 50,000 years, swamp kauri lay beneath the earth, holding a story of its own. Now its carved curves seem to flow like a waterfall. Fine threads spill over the wood, like the red roots of a pōhutukawa tree.

The stool, benchseat, credenza and tall cabinet each carry the same idea: the people we love are joined by threads that time cannot break.

Each piece is designed as a one-of-a-kind collectible. Only one will ever be made. There will be no copies, giving its owner something truly personal, exclusive and unique.

STUDIO BY DESIGN

LyZadie design at a more accessible price.

These pieces still carry our stories, values and commitment to ethical design. Furniture is made to order for each project, helping us avoid wasted materials. Please allow approximately 12 weeks for furniture, with lead times varying for other products.

Our LIQUID EMBRACE rugs, created with Designer Rugs Designerrugsnz , and our PIN & YANG Collection, developed with QIU Quality Innovation United , belong within Studio By Design.

We are slowly growing this part of LyZadie for your residential and hospitality projects. Our newest Studio collection is an expression of pure ethical luxury, and we cannot wait to reveal it.

LIQUID EMBRACE Rug II was conceived as a piece of architecture for the floor, a sculptural landscape that anchors a space and quietly shapes how it is experienced.

Its flowing contours meet, separate and fold into one another, creating rhythm, depth and movement. The carved surface responds beautifully to changing light, revealing new shadows and details throughout the day.

Handcrafted from premium New Zealand wool, silk, or a combination of both, each rug can be individually commissioned in bespoke dimensions, colours and finishes. THE RED THREAD — SOME STORIES WAIT YEARS TO FIND THEIR FORM.

Carved in 50,000 years old ancient swamp kauri, in these pieces The Red Thread brings together land, memory and a story Lyzadie Lyzadie Renault has carried since she was 15 years old.

The flowing pattern is inspired by the pou at Kaingamatura, near Huia. It acknowledges the history and whakapapa of mana whenua, Te Kawerau ā Maki, and the traditional Māori story of two lovers who hid together behind the powerful waters of a roaring waterfall.

When Lyzadie was 15, she spent a week staying at Hoani Waititi Marae. There, under the guidance of renowned Māori artist and educator Arnold Manaaki Wilson, she helped carve a mural telling this same story. To present their work, the students also acted out the story, bringing its people, emotion and meaning to life.

That beautiful experience stayed with her for all these years.

Now, the story has returned through design.

The curved layers of swamp kauri represent the waterfall, while the fine threads flow across the wood like the exposed roots of the pōhutukawa tree, holding, protecting and connecting.

Together, they tell a story about love, courage and the unseen and unbreakable threads that connect people across time and space.

This is more than furniture. It is a memory carried forward, a detail of nature, a story treated with respect, and a piece of design created with soul.

WHAT IF THE OBJECTS WITHIN A SPACE COULD TELL ITS STORY?

We are beginning to explore THE RED THREAD, a new collection conceived for a boutique hospitality project.

The collection begins with the exposed red roots of the pōhutukawa, like threads of life running through the earth, and the story of the red thread of fate: an invisible connection between people that may stretch, twist or tangle, but can never be broken.

These ideas are woven together with the movement of falling water, inspired by the carved waterfall at the beginning of the Karamatura Track in Huia and its story of two lovers sheltering behind the cascade.

Why create something unique for a space?

Because the objects we live alongside shape how a place feels and how it is remembered. A meaningful piece can create a sense of identity, belonging and connection. It gives guests more than something beautiful to look at, it gives them a story to discover and an experience they carry with them.

Each piece is envisioned as an object with soul: handcrafted by local makers in ethical materials, connecting the character of the land with the people who visit it.

This is our expression of ethical luxury, design that is beautiful, meaningful and made with care.
