Okay but… can we take a second to appreciate the NEW purple AK-Vs !! ✨

A huge thank you to everyone who gave their input over the last couple of months while we worked on choosing colours that not only felt truly EFFY, but that our customers would genuinely love too.

We used two giveaways to help guide the process and see which colours people connected with the most, and honestly, getting everybody’s feedback made the whole thing so much fun 🩷

And now… if you order an AK-V factory direct, you’ll receive our new branded purple AK-V 💜✨

All new AK-V stock arriving to our shops in late May / early June will also now be in the new purple colourway, and I genuinely could not be more excited about it because it feels SO perfectly EFFY.

The AK-V has become our favourite tufting machine for both workshops and everyday tufting because it’s lightweight, durable, beginner-friendly, easy to maintain, and incredibly smooth and quiet to use.

We’re preparing to manufacture 500 AK-V casings in custom colours, and before we commit to production we want the community’s input.

I’m honestly obsessed with this discovery.

EFFY Cotton Blend, when tufted densely, becomes incredibly sculptable. Not just clean lines — but actual dimension. You can push and shape it, carve deeper, and create forms that feel intentional and architectural rather than just flat colour.

It’s opened up so many new ideas for wall hangings. Pieces where carving isn’t just refinement — it becomes part of the design itself. The fibre holds its position, allowing you to create sharper transitions, deeper bevels, and more controlled shaping.

In this video, I’m carving the same rug made with EFFY Cotton Blend, using both traditional scissors and electric rug carving scissors so you can see the difference for yourself.

Manual scissors give you full hands-on control, while electric carving scissors are fast, efficient, and much less aggressive — perfect for shaping gradually and refining details without overcutting.

No music on this one — just the real sounds of the tools at work 🎧✨

One of our most common questions is: how much yarn do I need to make my rug? 🧶

We’ve put together a quick, practical guide to help you calculate how many cones (or grams) of yarn you’ll need for your next tufted rug.

This guide is based on:
• The AK-V tufting machine
• Default pile height of ~0.55 in / 14 mm
• A DK-weight acrylic rug yarn
• 9 WPI, 530/3 tex, approx. 3/32 in / 2.3 mm thick
• 250 g / 0.55 lb cones (each cone ≈ 250 g)
Your tufting density & fiber type can impact usage.

→ a simple formula you can use to calculate yarn for any size rug

As always, these are estimates — density, technique, and yarn choice can vary — so we recommend rounding up slightly 💜

We don’t have every colour left – so design around what’s available. It’s a great way to push out of your comfort zone and create something unexpected (and often even better than the original plan).

Note: Cotton–acrylic blend yarn is excluded. It’s a hybrid yarn suitable for both rug making and knitting/crochet, rather than a dedicated rug yarn.

Pulled out my CP-I flat rug shearing machine today and… wow 😅 it was definitely time for a clean.

It’s always worth taking the time to remove fibre build-up from your tufting and carving machines. You don’t realise how many tiny cracks and crevices there are until you really get in there with a brush.

In this video I’m doing a full little maintenance reset:
🧹 brushing out all the built-up fibres (and rotating the blade to reach everything)
💨 using a spray duster for the hard-to-reach spots
⚙️ realigning the pulley system after it slipped slightly (totally normal with pulleys)
💧 adding a few drops of oil to keep everything running smooth

Regular cleaning + lubrication is such an important part of looking after expensive machinery and keeping it performing its best.

Tools used:
• Tufting gun cleaning brush (EFFY)
• EFFY machine & carver oil
• CPI flat shearing machine
• Spray duster (from my local hardware store)

A simple process, but one your machines will seriously thank you for 👏
