These black pillow covers are a perfect example.

I found them buried at the bottom of a linen bin in a thrift store. The colour caught my eye first, but it was the craftsmanship that won me over. Made from a beautiful silk and cotton blend, they feature an embossed floral pattern with subtle hints of red, green, and touches of gold.

They’re not the latest trend, and they probably never were. But they’re beautifully made, full of character, and still as eye-catching today as the day they were created.

Good styling isn’t about following trends. It’s about surrounding yourself with pieces you genuinely love. Because when something speaks to you, it never really goes out of style.

Don’t get me wrong, I was completely honoured to be asked, and I appreciate the cause, but that was the quickest “no” I’ve ever said.

People seem to think because I stage and style homes, I must live in some perfectly curated show home. The reality is, we’ve got a solid old 1940s house with ceiling cracks, blue tack in the carpet, a kitchen that’s hanging on for dear life, and a never-ending list of jobs that all require one thing - money.

We’re a young family, I’m still in my bloody thirties, and contrary to popular belief, I haven’t made my millions yet.
Our home reflects exactly where we’re at in life right now, and I’m perfectly okay with that. Maybe give me a call in 15 years when the kids have flown the nest, I’ve built my dream home, and every room is filled with carefully curated thrifted treasures instead of things chosen for their ability to survive children.

Anyway, I’m off to scrub shoe polish off the curtains. Don’t ask me how it got there because I genuinely have no idea.
