The large jug does double duty,

It is quite obviously a large lug for pouring
but also because of its tapered shape makes a stunning vase

What would you use it for?

I am so incredibly proud of this artwork. I love how it came together and the playfulness that came through the process.
I titled each piece so it made a poem ... have a read

The world
is a complex
place.
Full of tension,
pain
and uncertainty.
Its easy
to get lost
and forget
the joy.
Joy
is important
but easily
forgotten.
For more
pressing issues
or crushing weights.
This is
my joy.
Embodied colour
serendipitous pattern.
And a process
I could
repeat everyday
until the end.

Nerikomi is like making ceramics on hard mode! I don’t scratch to attach the joins between each colour.

To explain how outrageous this is to non-ceramicists: it’s like building a house without nails and just hoping the wind isn’t too strong. Or like making a layered cake without icing between the layers... and expecting it to hold together.

Because of this, I end up with way more seconds than a potter who throws their work on the wheel. Which honestly just makes the Seconds Sale even more fun there are heaps of pots to rummage through, and the chaos is part of the charm.

Have you got the date in your diary?
November 14th 2026!

p.s thats the pink skinny vase showing off

I don’t like throwing anymore… now please put down your pitchfork

Throwing is often seen as the holy grail of ceramics. When I was learning, I’d hear senior potters say things like “if you can’t throw, you aren’t a real potter” (which is shockingly rude and untrue, but that’s another story).

Truth is, I once adored throwing. It’s what made me fall in love with clay in the first place and it was such an important part of my early journey.

But now, about 10 ish years in, I’m letting it go. Pitchforks down, I’m still a potter. I’m just really enjoying making handbuilt nerikomi, which over time has become my real happy place.

It’s not that I’ll never throw again or that I think it’s awful. It’s just that right now I want to pour my energy into what I love most: creating patterns in clay and handbuilding them into forms. That’s where the joy is for me.

So… are you happy for me?

The shiny black stripe
It starts off grey, but the kiln transforms it into a rich deep black.

The glossy glaze takes it to the next level.

Imagine a full dinner set in black on your table… how good would that look?
