How does colour make you feel? 🌈
I'm currently taking a deep dive into colour theory for my upcoming Floristry exam, and it's made me look back through the archives into what I've created over the years.

There are actually 9 different types of colour harmony and they all work along the premise that certain colours go well together because of their place on the colour wheel. Pretty cool hey.

For example, complementary colours lay exactly opposite on the wheel so yellow compliments violet. (See pic3 for an example of this)

Monochromatic means just one hue is used ie pink, and lots of tints, tones and shades of pink are used to full effect 💗

It's no secret that I LOVE using bright cheerful colours and I do grow mostly these hues in my cut flowers. However it's not everyone cup of tea and for condolence work especially, pastels are preferred.

What do you like? Bright, pastels or maybe a mix of both...

Have you ever wanted to play the dahlia lottery?
Growing dahlias from seed is one of the most exciting and rewarding things that ive done (I know - im a plant geek but hear me out!)

You actually dont know exactly what youre going to get - BUT Thats all part of the fun and believe me its pretty awesome finding out when they flower.

The best part is - there isnt a dahlia on this planet that will have the same genetics as the one you grow - MIND BLOWN

Ive had such a massive response to my seed that im posting so that you can have the chance to grab some before its too late in the season to start them off. I will have seed available for the next 2 weeks so the time is now! ⏰️

I have seed from one named parent - meaning I collected the seed from a specific named variety last autumn, this means there is a greater chance of getting a new dahlia variety with similar properties. Disclaimer - you cannot clone a dahlia from seed, its impossible!

I have my own Bee & Bloom Rainbow mix which is a mix of 30 seeds from all the varieties thar I grow, I had one lovely lady who germinated 29 from the mix how amazing!

Seeds come with an instruction sheet and im always here to answer any questions that you have and id LOVE to see what you grow.

You can order directly from me via a message if you are local to Kapiti or passing through, or order online for courier postage to your door

Hello lovely Kāpiti locals! I need your help...🙏 I am looking for the following, and im happy to pick up from you 👇🏼

Glass jars - these usually come full of gherkins/roasted peppers, etc. (see pic)
I can remove labels and no lid needed

Wool liners from food/meat subscription boxes. These come with cold/frozen items in. And are thick strips of wool matting.

Please let me know if you have either, I would be so grateful - thank you 😊

I've had a lot of new followers and it's high time I come on and say hi, I'm Alison, florist and Grower of cut-flowers on the Kāpiti Coast New Zealand.

What started out as a way of creating a job, income and a bit of passion project whilst I was at home with my toddler has turned into a career, a chance to do what I love and to help educate and hopefully inspire others to grow flowers themselves.

I receive orders from all over the world, share in people's joy and grief, act as a bridge for those who can't be together, I meet people who are so passionate about flowers it's infectious, I get to support other NZ small businesses and I have the best flower-chats everyday.

When I started I had a 15mo and a crazy dream to literally grow as many flowers as I could. I had no plan, no business name and no idea what I was doing.

People always so oh you must have acres of land. No! I have a garden and the sheer will and determination to grow thousands of stems every season.

I didn't go to growing school and I killed SO many plants (still do!) I just observed, watched and did better when I failed. Failure has taught me more than anything else ever could.

I could not and would not be here if it wasn't for the community who supports me so greatly and those who just want to see what I'm doing and maybe learn something along the way.

So thank you. Every like comment share and chat that we share helps to build this wonderful experience, I wouldn't change it and im so grateful that you are here ❤️
