BACK FROM THE WILD! 🦌

A native deer species once believed to have disappeared from Marinduque has been sighted again after decades of absence.

The Philippine deer, also known as the Philippine sambar or Rusa marianna, has been documented in several parts of the province, offering renewed hope for one of the country’s vulnerable wildlife species.

According to DENR-MIMAROPA and local conservation partners, records confirmed multiple sightings within the Marinduque Wildlife Sanctuary, with Barangay Makulapnit emerging as a key habitat after at least 10 individuals were recorded.

The species was long presumed locally extinct in Marinduque due to habitat loss, hunting pressure, and declining populations. Its reappearance suggests that small groups may have survived quietly in the island’s forests.

Environmental authorities continue to remind the public not to approach, harm, hunt, or disturb the Philippine deer, as protecting its habitat remains essential to its long-term survival.

This rare comeback is more than a wildlife sighting. It is a reminder that when forests are protected and communities work together, even species once feared lost can find their way back.

FIRST BLIND ATTY! ⚖️✨

“Set a goal and make it happen.”

Atty. Anthony Mark Dulawan Emocling of the University of Baguio made history as the first blind Bar passer in the Philippines after successfully passing the Bar Examinations.

His journey to becoming a lawyer was never easy.

Emocling lost his sight at the age of 10 due to a medical condition, but he continued pursuing education with determination, discipline, and the support of the people who believed in him.

Before entering law school, he graduated cm laude with a degree in Political Science. He later pursued law at the University of Baguio School of Law, where he faced the difficult realities of studying legal materials with limited resources for students who are blind or visually impaired.

During review, he used computer screen-reading software to access books, cases, and other law materials. For the Bar examination, he also received accommodations, including assistance from Supreme Court personnel who helped read the questions and encode his dictated answers.

His success came after four Bar attempts, proving that delays, setbacks, and repeated tries do not define the end of a dream.

Beyond the title, Atty. Emocling hopes to use his profession to serve others, especially persons with disabilities, and to become a voice for human rights and public service.

His story is more than a personal victory. It is a reminder that inclusive education matters, support systems matter, and every learner deserves the chance to pursue their dream regardless of disability.

Congratulations, Atty. Anthony Mark Emocling! 🌻
