OPEN LAYOUT DONE RIGHT. It’s subtle, but the rug is doing real work here: guiding your eye, setting a soft boundary between dining and living, while also tying the whole space together. Paired with that bold yellow cabinet, it defines the whole layout without the rigidity, without needing walls or clutter πŸ’›

And while it may seem like the loudest thing in the room, the rug adds depth quietly, which is not the easiest thing to pull off. 10/10 no notes πŸ˜˜πŸ‘ŒπŸ½

Starting a small series where I document rugs I find or cross paths with β€” pieces that catch me with their color, structure, or quiet history.

These ones were photographed at , an old restored house in Bangkokβ€” that’s now a small hotel that carries the feeling of another time.

[Starting with my favourite] A dense Kurdish tribal rug, woven with a tight diamond lattice and dyed with colors from the mountains.

A small Afghan rug, deep red and compact, anchoring a stairwell with its worn, steady presence.

A handwoven Caucasian rug from the Shirvan or Kuba region, likely from the 1960s–1980s β€” bold medallions, loose fringes, and a patina softened by decades of movement and life.

Rugs are travelers too β€” moving across borders, homes, and generations, carrying traces of where they’ve been.

Baan Tuk Din holds these ones for now β€” before they move on, as all things do.

In the absence of sprawling foyers or grand hallways β€” especially in smaller Filipino homes β€” I’ve been rethinking where runners might belong.

This one lives under my work table. It softens the echo of hard floors, makes the stray wires less of an eyesore, and grounds my feet while I work.

A quiet rebellion against the usual rules of placement.
