What is R&B Seed Research Farm
R&B is an advanced vegetable seed research and breeding organization in Pakistan, jointly supported by Barkha Seed and leading professionals from the country’s vegetable seed sector. The primary objective of R&B is to develop high-quality hybrid vegetable seeds and parent lines locally, reducing Pakistan’s dependence on imported vegetable seeds.
R&B’s research and development activities are guided by experienced vegetable breeders from Asia and Europe, particularly from Pakistan, Bangladesh, Thailand, and the Netherlands. The organization specializes in the breeding and development of hybrid seeds for cucumber, bitter gourd, chili, and tomato.
With research farms located in Toba Tek Singh and other major agricultural regions of Pakistan, R&B focuses on hybrid development, parent line improvement, seed production, and extensive farmer trials. The organization aims to supply high-performing hybrid seeds and parent lines according to the needs of local and international seed companies.
In April 2027, R&B plans to organize an international seminar bringing together renowned vegetable breeders, seed industry experts, and stakeholders from around the world. The event will provide professional training on hybrid seed development, breeding technologies, seed production, and export marketing. Representatives from Pakistan’s agriculture and vegetable seed sectors are also expected to participate.
R&B’s vision is to help Pakistan achieve self-sufficiency in vegetable seeds, reduce imports, strengthen the local seed industry, increase farmers’ income, and contribute to the country’s agricultural and economic growth.
