We are truly honoured to be participating in Premio Aromata 2026 PREMIO AROMATA, an international competition and exhibition celebrating artistic and independent perfumery, taking place October 8–10 in the beautiful city of Rome, Italy! 🇮🇹✨

This year’s theme, “Perfume: An Expressive Code. The Invisible Between the Lines,” explores the extraordinary connection between literature and scent. It invites perfumers to translate the written word into an olfactory language, capturing emotions, atmospheres, memories, and stories that exist beyond the pages of a book.

We are especially excited that our fragrance NSFRTÅ, inspired by Bram Stoker’s Dracula, is representing Dark Tales in this year’s competition. Drawing inspiration from one of the most iconic works of Gothic literature, NSFRTÅ brings the haunting atmosphere, mystery, and dark romanticism of Stoker’s world into the language of scent. We could hardly imagine a more fitting fragrance to represent us under this year’s literary theme.

As storytelling has always been at the very heart of Dark Tales, this theme feels particularly close to us. We have always believed that perfume can tell stories just as powerfully as words, sometimes expressing what words themselves cannot.

It is wonderfu to be part of an event that celebrates fragrance not merely as something beautiful to wear, but as an art form, a means of expression, and a language of its own. 🖤

Today, I spent the day digging through the Dark Tales archives, trying to figure out just how many perfumes we’ve actually launched since 2019. And what a fun little trip down memory lane it’s been! Some of them I’d almost forgotten existed. 👵🏻

And mind you, this doesn’t even include all our little side adventures, like exclusive perfumes hidden inside mystery boxes or other special projects. Every single one on this list was a standalone fragrance launch!

Now I’m curious… how many of them have you tried? Does anyone still have any of our really old creations tucked away somewhere? Which one has been your absolute favourite? ⏳

And perhaps an even more interesting question… is there anything you’d love to see us bring back from the dead? 🕯️

Dark, spectral and strangely comforting. Spiced cherry and wh**ky against cold moss-covered woods, wool, smoky resins, oud, aged vanilla, amber and pale musk.

The first chapter of a larger story — and a prelude to our upcoming gothic novel, The Cabinet of Lost Voices.

ALL HALLOWS’ EVE
Burnt pumpkin and smoky clove beneath ghostly incense, melted candle wax, caramelised apple, charred woods, leather and rain-soaked earth.
Resinous / Spicy / Gourmand.
Our returning seasonal Halloween Limited Edition.

HAUNTED MANSION
Powdered neroli drifting through bitter to***co and black chocolate, settling into old cedar, oakmoss and deep-aged vanilla.
Dark / Woody / Gourmand.
An original Dark Tales fragrance from 2019, later known as Château, now returning under its first name.

BLACK WATERS
A black tide of sea salt and ozone, scorched seashells and seaweed, sinking into vetiver, ebony woods and soft cashmere. Smoky, humid, heavy and fresh all at once.
Marine / Dark Woody / Smoky.

All four will also appear together in the Halloween Haunted Edition Discovery Set — 4 × 2 ml, limited to 500 sets only. Next Halloween will bring a different selection.

Dark Tales has arrived in New York. 🖤

We are very happy to announce that our perfumes are now available at Stéle.

For the first time, our US customers can discover Dark Tales in person, experience the perfumes on skin, and explore our stories through scent.

We’re delighted to join Stéle’s beautifully curated selection of independent perfumery and to finally have a physical home for DT in New York.

🇺🇸 DEAR U.S. CUSTOMERS, 🇺🇸

WE’RE FINALLY BACK.

After a long pause, Dark Tales is once again available in the United States through our wonderful U.S. retail partners, Polysnifferous (Jamie and Noah) and Stéle (Stéle).

This means you can once again discover and order a selection of Dark Tales and Villaniflōr perfumes directly within the USA.

Polysnifferous is now carrying Dark Tales updated stateside, making it much easier to return to old favorites, discover something new, or finally try the fragrances that have been waiting on your wishlist.

Their selection will continue to grow, including upcoming Halloween and Christmas limited editions, with more releases joining the collection throughout the year.

And there is more coming to New York.

Our new retail partner Stéle has curated a selection of Dark Tales and Villaniflōr perfumes that will soon be available to discover in person at their two boutiques in New York — NoLita and Williamsburg.

The collection is currently being prepared for Stéle and will be available in September.

But then again… are there really accidents? 🌙🧹

Let’s talk about batch differences in natural perfumery, or in perfumes built with a high percentage of natural materials.

It’s no secret that our perfumes are largely botanical in composition, usually around 70-100% natural materials depending on the scent: essential oils, absolutes, CO₂ extracts, concretes, waxes, resins and more. Aroma molecules are used mostly for toning, shading, improving structure, or creating notes that simply don’t exist as natural perfumery materials.

So why can the same perfume smell slightly different from one batch to another? Aren’t we following exactly the same formula every time?

We are. The formula stays the same. The materials don’t.

Synthetic aroma molecules can usually be produced with a very high level of consistency. Naturals are another story entirely.

Think of w**e, coffee, tea or even fruit. The same grape variety grown in the same region can taste slightly different from one harvest to the next. Botanical perfumery materials behave in much the same way.

The scent of an essential oil or absolute can be influenced by countless tiny variables: the region where the plant was grown, weather during the season, rainfall, temperature, soil, the exact moment of harvesting, the condition of the plants, extraction methods, processing techniques and even subtle differences between productions from the same supplier.

Sometimes these variations are barely perceptible. Sometimes a certain facet becomes a little greener, darker, sweeter, smokier or more floral.

And that is part of the beauty of working with nature. Nature does not manufacture identical copies of itself. Each harvest carries a little fingerprint of the place and moment it came from, and occasionally that fingerprint becomes visible in the finished perfume.

There is another important factor too: maturation.

A freshly blended perfume is still finding its balance. During the first weeks and months, materials continue integrating, sharper edges soften, heavier notes settle into the structure and the composition becomes increasingly cohesive. In our experience, a new batch can continue shifting noticeably for up to around three months, and subtler evolution may continue far beyond that.

This means that a sample poured from a batch blended several months ago, or even a year ago, may smell somewhat different beside a bottle from a freshly matured batch, despite being made from exactly the same formula.

We like to think of perfume a little like w**e: it is alive in the bottle, and time is one of its ingredients.

So when you notice tiny differences between batches of a natural-heavy perfume, you are not necessarily experiencing inconsistency. Sometimes you are simply smelling the nature of the materials themselves.

A little unpredictability. A little individuality.

And perhaps… a little accidental witchcraft. ✨
