White Body Celadon Tea Bowl & Stand
Artist: Su Bau Tsai

This tea bowl was created by artist Su Bau Tsai for a solo exhibition in 2010, showcased at Deco Play. Inspired by Song dynasty tea ware, both the bowl and its stand reflect a quiet elegance and refined simplicity rooted in classical aesthetics. Crafted using a traditional support firing technique(glaze over a small branch nail sticks burning), the piece achieves a full-glaze finish—its smooth, lustrous surface capturing not only the warmth of tea but the calm of contemplation.

We’re incredibly grateful to Mr. Liao for giving us such a fascinating talk on Song Dynasty celadon!
Through his insights, we gained a deeper understanding of what ceramics and glazes are, and how ancient artisans used firing techniques and temperature control to create these stunning works. It was amazing to see how pieces from different kilns carried their own unique beauty and craftsmanship.
A special highlight was getting to see priceless celadon shards from Mr. Liao’s personal collection—each one offered us a new perspective and appreciation for ceramic art.
Thank you, Mr. Liao, for sharing your passion and knowledge with us!

Qing Bo Pan (Mallow flower shaped plate) | 2016
Black-bodied Celadon plate
Artist: Su Bau Tsai

This beautifully crafted plate by artist Su Bau Tsai is more than just a ceramic piece—it’s a symbol of artistic friendship and cultural elegance.
Designed specially to sponsor a close friend’s exhibition in France, the plate also served as a commemorative souvenir for the event. Su Bau Tsai drew inspiration from traditional Eastern floral motifs, shaping the plate into the delicate form of a mallow flower.
What makes this piece truly extraordinary is the glaze-scraping technique used to accentuate the flower’s ridged patterns. The refined texture, paired with the soft flow of the form, offers a deeply tactile and visual experience—a moment of still beauty that invites closer attention.
In every line and curve, you can feel Su Bau Tsai’s intent: to blend tradition and innovation, and to share something meaningful with both his friend and every viewer who encounters this work.

A beautiful reminder that art can be a gift, a gesture, and a connection all at once.

Cloud Series (2012–2015)Black-Bodied Celadon Water Jar
Artist: Su Bau Tsai

The Cloud Series emerged during a pivotal moment in Artist Su Bau Tsai’s practice—a time of transformation and exploration.
As his studio transitioned toward structured series work, Su Bau Tsai turned to the timeless elegance of Ru ware for inspiration. The soft, lotus-like forms of ancient vessels informed a new direction: asymmetrical, petal-shaped designs that embraced fluidity and quiet tension.
At the time, technical limitations in materials made these irregular shapes more achievable than traditional circular forms. What began as a practical solution soon became an aesthetic signature. Between 2012 and 2015, Su Bau Tsai developed a range of vessels—including water jars, tea pitchers, cups, and more—each thoughtfully designed to serve the daily rituals of both Eastern and Western cultures.
The Cloud Series is not only a study in form and function but a reflection of the artist’s belief in the beauty of imperfection and the quiet power of transformation.

Celadon artist Su Bao Tsai engages in a nuanced dialogue between tradition and modernity through his celadon creations, most notably his reinterpretation of the Guan-er vase. Rooted in antiquity, this form originated as a bronze vessel used in aristocratic arrow-throwing games during the Qin and Han dynasties. Over time, its function shifted—transitioning from a game implement to a refined ceramic vessel used for floral arrangements and incense, mirroring the evolution of aesthetic values and daily rituals.

Su Bao Tsai’s work not only restores the proportions and elegance of historical originals, but also introduces a miniature version of the Gua-er vase. These scaled-down celadon pieces distill classical beauty into intimate, palm-sized forms, offering a poetic reinterpretation of tradition. One such piece, gifted to a respected elder in his family, becomes more than a token of affection—it is a vessel of cultural memory and emotional resonance.

Through this series, Su Bao Tsai emerges not just as a ceramicist, but as a custodian of heritage. His work bridges past and present, form and feeling, object and meaning—inviting viewers to reflect on the quiet persistence of tradition in contemporary life.

Today, it holds old white tea—
aged, wise, and golden.
The leaves bloom slowly,
releasing an aroma so rare,
like wild honey drifting through a pine forest,
whispers of time steeped into scent.

In its cracked shell and glowing soul,
stone meets sky, and silence meets steam.
A moment held between fingers,
a sip of something eternal. 🍃🍵

✨ Golden Scars, Silent Stories ✨

Once broken, now beloved.
This vessel, once fractured, now flows with veins of gold —
A quiet testament to the beauty of healing.
Each line sings a song of resilience,
Each crack glows with remembrance.

This is the art of **kintsugi** —
Where imperfections are not hidden,
But gilded, honored, and transformed.

Let your tea steep in something that remembers.
Let every sip be a whisper:
"You are more beautiful for having been broken."

The Right Teacup Makes All the Difference! ☕✨

Drinking tea isn’t just about the leaves—your teacup plays a big role in the aroma and taste! Choosing the right cup can elevate your tea experience:

✅ Porcelain Cups – Smooth and non-absorbent, perfect for green and white tea, keeping flavors fresh and pure.
✅ Yixing Clay Cups – Absorbs tea aromas over time, enhancing richness. Best for oolong and pu-erh tea.
✅ Glass Cups – Preserves original flavors and lets you admire tea leaves unfurling—great for floral and green teas.

☕ Cup Shape Matters
🔹 Wide-rim Cups – Releases aroma quickly, ideal for oolong tea with a light, airy taste.
🔹 Narrow-rim Cups – Traps fragrance, perfect for high-mountain and rock teas for a richer flavor.

💡 Small Details Affect Taste Too!
👉 Thin-walled cups enhance delicate flavors.
👉 Thicker cups retain heat longer, making tea feel smoother and warmer.

Tea drinking is an experience—choosing the right cup adds to the ritual. Which teacup do you prefer? Let us know in the comments! ⬇️
