“Pump” is one of the studio’s first sculptures, created around the time we launched our New York-inspired scarf collection in 2021. We reimagined our many stays in New York—the neon lights of a city that never sleeps, the swinging jazz, and the concrete jungle’s greenery—and brought them to life through vibrant patterns.

And that is precisely what makes “Pump” so intriguing. While most sculptures require the viewer to actively approach them, “Pump” feels as though it actively initiates the interaction. It commands attention, pulling the viewer’s gaze inward along its layered, looping patterns and structures. In gazing at it, one feels a wave-like, expanding rhythm that makes you pause involuntarily, perhaps even reflecting on your own relationship with the space around you.

A Wonderful Cross-Cultural Dialogue at the Studio

We were delighted to welcome Professor Peter McNeil from the University of Technology Sydney (UTS) and Dr. Chih-I Lai, a researcher from the National Palace Museum Southern Branch, to our studio. This exchange allowed us to discover incredible commonalities through the lenses of fashion art history and modern design.

Professor McNeil has researched the significance of fashion objects, which mirrors our own commitment to bringing art into everyday life through design. During our conversations, we were surprised to uncover connections between Taiwan’s Austronesian Indigenous cultures and Australian Aboriginal art. We also discussed how Australian brands have integrated Aboriginal totem art into fashion design. Peter also took a great liking to our infinity mirror, “Humanoid Stars,” noting that it radiates the vibrant, joyful party atmosphere of ‘80s club culture. From Indigenous art to the aesthetics of nightlife, we were reminded once again that design has the power to connect diverse cultures and locales.

Introducing “Soaring Flocks” – a public artwork for Taoyuan Airport

Inspired by the spectacle of migratory birds in the wetlands surrounding Taoyuan Airport, “Soaring Flocks” translates the flying motions of birds and airplanes into a ”houndstooth“ totem. The artwork blends distinct textures and patterns derived from the colors of the seasons. Much like people arriving from different corners of the world, they converge and pause on this island before embracing the unknown. From multicultural inclusivity to a positive, forward-looking mindset, this cultural DNA defines contemporary Taiwan.

🏆 We’ve received a iF International Forum Design trophy for the interior design of our Taipei studio!

This recognition belongs not only to the work itself, but also to the collaboration behind it. We deeply value the trust and mutual support we have built with SW Design, shaping a shared Team Taiwan spirit.

Thank you to Winnie, Shawn, and the SW Design team. This project carries the shared thinking of both teams, becoming part of our everyday creative life and a meaningful milestone in our collaborative journey.

As we approach the anniversary of the space, we look back on this project as an important starting point, while also looking forward to new projects now underway with SW Design.

We recently opened up Gallery Cho as the venue for Interior Design Aesthetics Association’s regular gathering, “Space × Public Art × Light in Dialogue,” and were delighted to bring together many creators from the interior design field.

Director Cho reflected on the studio’s development over the past three years since moving into this space, looking back on how a creative team and collaborative network gradually took shape here, while the studio itself slowly became a place for peers to gather, connect, and exchange ideas. Winnie, meanwhile, led a tour, introducing everything from the finer details of the interior design to the outcomes created through the blending of art and design.

In the second half of the event, the discussion turned to the public art project, with lighting designer Lee Yi-Shun of “Gateway to Taiwan: Island Tales” joining us to share her perspective. This exchange also gave us the opportunity to have many in-depth conversations with people from different professional backgrounds.

Thank you to SW Design for the arrangement, and to everyone who came to join the conversation.

Thank you for journeying together, Happy Mother's Day!

Tomorrow is Mother's Day, and we would like to express our respect and gratitude to every mother who cares for life with wisdom and devotion.

While reflecting on the meticulous care and love our mothers provided throughout our upbringing, we are also reminded of the heartwarming scenes from the recent "A Hundred Reasons to Fly" Children's Online Painting Competition awards ceremony at Gallery Cho in Taipei.

We saw so many mothers lovingly accompany and encourage their children. Such persistent dedication and love are the most precious and rare gifts in everyone's life. It is for this reason that all of us at YEN TING CHO Studio wish to offer our sincere blessings on this special day.

At our shows in New York and elsewhere, we often use a tablet to introduce studio projects to visitors. We are always happy to see people stop with curiosity, listen, and share their thoughts with us, sometimes leading to new collaborations and commissions.

With this in mind, we have launched a new quarterly newsletter as a sustainable way to share the studio’s recent news and developments with supporters, clients and collaborators. From new window displays and guest exchanges to community engagement activities, and through the public art project ‘Gateway to Taiwan: Island Tales,’ we invite you to catch up on the studio's news and practice each quarter.

If you’d like to receive the newsletter, please DM or leave a comment saying “Subscribe” on this post, and we add you to the mailing list.
