So many details to show off at !! I can’t wait to officially photograph this one in the fall with baby number two on my hip! I guess this is becoming a trend that I schedule photo shoots during maternity leave. Don’t hate it - it’s my way of slowly easing back into what I love to do

10 steps to a successful start. I made a lot of mistakes. Here’s a simple checklist so you don’t have to

I started my company before I was engaged, but I knew I wanted to eventually replace my middle name with my maiden name when I got married - this felt like a permanent place to forever use my middle name “Victoria”

Do this before you take a single dollar. Go to your state’s business filing website and register.

I’m very transparent about what I did wrong here in my Substack post (and how much I had to pay in fees 🤦‍♀️)

Do it before Instagram because you need it as a landing page for anyone coming from IG that’s actually interested

It’s always been my strongest lead generator. It helps build your reputation to strangers.

Before you get your first client you want to have at least a basic version of these ready: a proposal, a contract, a services guide, and presentation slides. Screenshots of what I started with the article

What I started with has changed drastically in the last 6 years and that’s ok!

This is non-negotiable. You do not want all of your money sitting in one account.

The key is that it goes into your business account, not your personal one, and that you have a paper trail from day one

It will change over time as you make mistakes and close loopholes you didn’t know existed.

I love using vintage pieces in unexpected places but it does take more work than doing a normal cabinet….

Some benefits I see with converting vintage furniture is that it can come at a low price point (leave room for customizations and to have more fun with the stone) and it’s one-of-a-kinds!! This would cost SO much money to have someone make

A lot of planning goes into this kind of stuff… The table was much shorter than a standard vanity height should be, so we had to beef up the stone countertop. Laminated counters use two layers to make it extra thick. OK great, love this unique look! BUT it also meant that its skinny legs now needed to support extra heavy stone… a potential disaster waiting to happen. We explored adding bracing between the legs and ultimately put blocking behind to bolt the back of the table into the wall for extra support 😅

Next up countertops! Worked with our talented fabricator to ensure the proportions, edge details, and custom shaped backsplash were all working properly together. This is a back and forth process marking up comments on the shop drawings until we get it justttt right.

Then comes planning the spacing of plumbing fixtures, sealing the marble, and final accessories. I’m so obsessed with this custom sink 😍

I probably missed a few steps, but so happy with the way it turned out!! Would you take the extra effort to have this unique look in your home?
