Fun facts about how Goth Mama does 3d printing!
First and foremost, all my designs come from individual artists, most of whom are female. I subscribe to very select Patreons and feel it's essential to support the small business community. I am currently learning to make my own designs, but I will continue supporting other artists as I'm able to.
Secondly, I do all 3D printing myself in my home. I will never mass-produce anything. If I make a print, it's because it brings joy, has a purpose (fidget, play, creativity), and because I want to share it with others.
I have four printers that work very hard to keep up with us!
Third, to cut down on waste, many of our items are hand-painted rather than multi-color prints. I personally feel like it gives the print more personality, and I love having the opportunity to put hand-finishing on it. Otherwise I purge filament to fidgets to give away at events.
Finally, I print in PLA, which is mostly commercially compostable. I reuse filament waste into new art, and I'm constantly on the search for ways to repurpose any failed prints. If a print isn't perfect, it is repurposed by my children, given away at events, or donated.
While I can't speak for every printer, please know anything made by Goth Mama Crafts is consciously made. There’s plenty of room for growth and improvement and I know future developments will give us less waste. I am currently keeping an eye out for a reliable filament recycler and fingers crossed it will be soon!
